Though it only made it to #71 on the Hot 100, according to info I've seen, Tightrope Ride was kind of a favorite at the age of 12 for me as I was starting to buy 45's when it came out in 1971.
This was the first post-Morrison 45 for the Doors IIRC. Noticed right away, besides being edited, the 45 is different from the LP version. Vocal on the 45 is a bit buried compared to the LP where the vocal is dryer. |

At the risk of going off topic, did the Doors continue recording after Morrison died?

Yes, Eric, the other 3 soldiered on for two more albums, late 1971's "Other Voices" (from which two singles were issued; the above-mentioned "Tightrope Ride/Variety Is The Spice Of Life" and "Ships W/Sails/In The Eye Of The Sun".) Then, after the early 1972 compilation album, "Weird Scenes Inside The Gold Mine", the others then put out a second album, "Full Circle" in the summer of '72. (The singles were "Get Up And Dance/Treetrunk", "The Mosquito/It Slipped My Mind" (which barely charted, prompting a third 45, "The Piano Bird/Good Rockin'".) And that was it. To my knowledge, none of those final five singles used the famous "group logo" that I believe had appeared on all Doors 45's that included Jim Morrison.

Jim, you're correct. The post-Morrison 45s that I have ("Ships w/Sails" and "The Piano Bird") use the same Doors logo that appeared on the Other Voices LP cover. BTW, both of these 45s are edits. |
