Confirming that this digital single is available for download via Qobuz US:
https://www.qobuz.com/us-en/album/running-information-society/lvw4hdyn9pc0a Thanks for the tip, Kiefer! Stated lengths for the vocal & instrumental edits on Qobuz are 4:10/4:14, not terribly different than what has been listed on the Discogs listing for the 45. Thinking it is likely these could be the legit edits. Edited by EternalStatic - 31 October 2025 at 8:54am |

For what it's worth, I remember hearing this track on WKTU when I was driving through NYC about 10 years ago. I don't remember how they edited it.

I can tell you that with 100% certainty this edit is not
the edit I heard back on the radio in the early 90s due to the ending. That said, it is possible that the version I did hear was an edit created by the station especially since I heard it years after it was released. I just listened to my 4:20 edit and the ending is how I remember it (repeats a synth note about 5 or 6 times and fades out fast). |

The YT video sounds like it's from vinyl. Whether or not it's the "real deal," I don't know. Was it the same YT user that posted the last version and claimed it was the original edit when it really wasn't? If so, his credibiity is still in question.

Qobuz is of no help as they only have the 7:45 album
version and a slew of remixes. |

Ugh, I was fooled. In Adobe Audition, I took the very last vinyl noise sound (with no music) and pasted it before the intro, and lo and behold, the waveforms are identical, just reversed.
Also I see now there's some inconsistencies in the spectrogram, if you zoom in and look at the lowest frequencies across the whole song. The ends have definitely been processed and use different sources than the main part of the song. Sorry for the false alarm. Looking forward to hearing the real deal someday. Edited by mjb50 |

Ain't no way that's legit. On the intro and fade, it sounds like someone is dropping the needle onto the record while the music is still playing. Listen carefully, and you'll hear that the vinyl noise is completely gone for about a second (music only) and then (THUMP) a needle hitting a blank groove.
