Time-Life "Legendary Country SIngers"

Time-Life "Legendary Country Singers" series, Patsy Cline to be exact.

I'm not 100% sure if this is a question for this group, but I'll give it a shot.

As I pull a lot of old CDs out of storage and put them into new more visible and accessible storage, I've been listening to a few here and there.
Just to note, I haven't got anything high end hooked up yet. Just a PC and a pair of Sony bluetooth headphones at the moment.

Of all the information printed on the disc insert, I see that MCA produced this disc with a Time-Life number of R990-05 MSD 35769. (1995)

On track 12 titled, "Imagine That" I noticed there was a lot of noise in one channel at a few spots. First at 00:05 and again at 00:10 - 00:12.
It sort of sounds like a crackly pot in the mix. I'm wondering if anyone else has a copy of this CD and could tell me if I just have a bad disc.

I would explain that I can't accurately tell which channel it is coming from as I can't seem to find a setting or any way to have the PC tell me
which side is which. The phones say it's the right channel but, I've already posted in another thread that these are not labeled L or R.

I went to youtube and looked up the song and noted that the copy they had didn't have the crackles like mine, but may have also been a mono copy.
I don't have the link handy, sorry. I also have a sealed copy that I don't want to open for a test.

I have been reading that some Time-Life stuff has a pretty good reputation here though, some stuff doesn't. Is this Legendary Country Singers a series that
generally has a good reputation? I thought I would ask and see if anyone had time to sample their copy, (If they own one.)

These seem to be outstanding.

Try ripping with a program that uses Accuraterip to determine if you're getting the 0's and 1's that are really on the disc. I recommend EAC or dbpoweramp for the PC; not sure if there's a Mac equivalent. Rip the track, and see if you still hear the noise in the ripped file.

I have the above 4 in my collection. All are excellent
sounding discs and are worth seeking out either as an
overview to the individual artists (even if you may
have other discs by them, the selection of tracks is
often unique enough to warrant grabbing them up).

The noises on the track in question are present on the
master tape (most likely caused by a noisy pot in the
board that went unnoticed).

The upside to the Patsy Cline volume is it is one of
the few readily available compilations of her work that
contains some of the original stereo mixes presented in
un-narrowed form. A large number of Patsy Cline
MCA/Universal discs
are narrowed for whatever reason.

The 2004 Universal set, The Definitive Collection
contains a number of these narrowed stereo mixes but it
also contains "Imagine That" with the noises fixed by
mastering great, Doug Schwartz. However, the L/R
channels on this CD are reversed from the TimeLife disc
for this particular song. What the proper L/R setup for
it would be is unknown to me.

Both Definitive and the TimeLife sets are still highly
recommended by me for anyone that wants to get an
instant Patsy Cline education.

I have this whole set - excellent sound on the set. I'll
have to pull out the Patsy Cline cd and listen to it when
I get a minute.
