ROLLING STONES - "Emotional Rescue"

The actual 45 running time is (5:35), the listed time is "5:38" on the record label. (Rolling Stones RS 20001)

My promo copy's short version has a listed time of 4:18, actual time is 4:16. Deadwax is STRS 38698-5 SP. I haven't timed the long version on the other side, but I'd imagine it matches abagon's commercial copy.

Does it axe the second verse (falsetta)?

Cheers,

Bump! Just curious if what I asked is true - no urgency.

Jody:

Haven't done a side by side comparison, but it may be multiple edits.

Just digging up this thread.

I assume this YouTube video was the true video version. Was this also the genuine promo edit?

The actual running time (5:35) by my first posting on this thread is incorrect. The correct time is (5:37)
I noticed it when I compared the 45 with the LP. There are no differences between the 45 and the LP. Sorry, Pat.

I have a 12 inch promo copy of this one.
Edit on one side, full length on side two.

Can you describe the edit times?

I synched up the long and short side of the promo 45 4:18/5:38. The 4:18 side almost makes it to 4:17, runs slightly faster than the 5:38 side but not much. The short side edits out 1:01 to 2:09 and edits on the phrase "I come to your Emotional Rescue" at both points. No other edits except an earlier fade to get to almost 4:17.

OK, so what I heard in 1980 was a custom edit at :47 which then jumped to the third verse. It removed the second verse and refrain, and jumped directly to "You think your one of a special breed...".

Just interesting that the edit I lined on the YouTube video, had the edit you described, but also some edits at the end as well. If you visit this link:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RzTbTzUqJtM

Listen at 3:28 to 3:36, and you'll notice something rearranged in there. And on the upbeat snare at 3:59, it jumps ahead too.

At least in comparison to the long side of the DJ 45 the only difference I hear on the short side is the one edit, I synched it up again to compare the ending, and it's the same as the long side except an earlier fade. No re-arranging at the end. Also, the actual edit may be on the drum hit right before the line "I Come To Your Emotional Rescue"

Gene originally told me about the differences in the video version, but
I can't remember if it was documented in a thread or if he just emailed
me. In addition to the edits, there is some unique ad libs on the fade
out of the video that are nowhere to be found on the album version.
