Some database CDs for Chaka Khan's "I'm Every Woman" say (LP version), while others say (LP length). I'm guessing the "versions" will have to be changed to "length."

Also, there are many CDs that run (3:50), which currently say ":08 longer than the 45 length..." Is it possible that this is based on the 45's printed time and not the actual run time?

Aaron, my commercial 45 has a listed time of (3:42) and an actual time of (3:43).

Thanks, Jim. It looks like they just got it wrong, time and time again.

Guys, I know timings are important to you, but this is the reason I do not pay that much attention to them: most of them are just not pin-point accurate. One of the reasons is because some start the time from the first note.   Some start at the leader. Some end on the last note. Some end with the leader. Sometimes, there are slight tape pitch variations, and sometimes the printed time represents the tape that was supposed to be pressed, but then another was substituted, and the label time was never fixed. On top of that, a different edit may have been used for a CD to approximate the correct edit. I have seen this quite a bit, too!

Timings can be used as a general guide to know if something may be what you are looking for, but I just can't see trusting them to always be right.

My comment was referring to the wrong length showing up on CD time and time again, not the printed time (which actually happens to be pretty close in this case). I don't think any of us has any trust for printed label times.

the lp/cd version from 'epiphany: the best of chaka khan'
and the 45 version are the same mix....you'll need to fade
out the cd version for 0:18 from 3:25 to 3:43 to
effectively re-create the 45 version/length....
