Since there has been a mini-revival of the domestic CD single lately (although VERY mini), we thought we'd start documenting all these releases. Most of them are store-chain exclusives, primarily Walmart. Here are a few recent titles I've found, and I know Paul Haney will be adding to the list.

I'm not including the American Idol EPs from Walmart because, at five different songs a piece, they violate the RIAA's "legal" definition of a single, which is no more than four separate songs. They RIAA says that is an EP. (I assume a maxi with eight different version of one song would still be counted as a single.)

I'm trying to include information on whether or not a single is lossless and not just mastered from an MP3 or AAC, as that has been an increasing problem since about 2003.

Taylor Swift - We Are Never Getting Back Together (Walmart Exclusive, Big Machine Records BMR310401A, UPC 843930006960) (verified lossless)

1. We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together (actual 3:12)

Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe (School Boy/Intescope Records B0016810-39, UPC 602537015085) (all tracks lossless)

1. Call Me Maybe (actual 3:13)
2. Both Sides Now (actual 3:52)

Jason Aldean - Take A Little Ride (Walmart Exclusive, Broken Bow Records BB-73772, UPC 697487737729) (all tracks lossless)

1. Take A Little Ride (actual 3:05)
2. See You When I See You (actual 3:50)

Maroon 5 - Payphone feat. Wiz Khalifa (A&M/Octone Records B0016962-32, UPC 602537058754) (all tracks lossless)

1. Payphone Featuring Wiz Khalifa (actual 3:50)
2. Payphone (w/o Wiz Khalifa) (actual 3:42)

B.o.B - Nothin' On You (Rebel Rock/Grand Hustler/Atlantic 2-524312, UPC 075678941498) ("Nothin' On You" is lossless. I've revised my earlier statement on this in the "Nothin' On You" thread. For proof, see my new post in the "List of MP3 Sources on CD" thread.)

1. Nothin' On You (feat. Bruno Mars) (actual 4:27) (lossless)
2. Bet I (feat. Playboy Tre) (actual 3:05) (lossy elements)

Natasha Bedingfield - Strip Me (Epic/Phonogenic 88697 80311 2, UPC 886978031129) (all lossless)

1. Strip Me (actual 3:29)
2. Unexpected Hero (actual 3:23)
3. Unwrited feat. Carney (actual 3:44)

Linkin Park - Burn It Down EP (Walmart Exclusive) (Warner Bros. 531374-2, UPC 093624950387) (all lossless)

1. Burn It Down (actual 3:50)
2. New Divide(Live) (actual 4:28)
3. In the End (Live) (actual 3:37)
4. What I've Done (Live) (actual 4:03)

Good stuff, Brian. I look forward to future contributions from you, Paul, and anyone else who can add to this list.

I pretty much stopped purchasing CD singles around 2003 due to overall lack of product and my steeply declined interest in the Top 40 music scene at the time. I believe the last CD single I purchased though was in 2006:

Taylor Hicks - "Do I Make You Proud" (J/19 85833)
1) Do I Make You Proud? (4:07)
2) Takin' It to the Streets (3:35)

I know my wife also purchased Mariah Carey's "Obsessed" on CD single at Wal-Mart a few years ago, though I'm unable to pass along the track listing and run time info because her copy seems to have gotten misplaced.

I've got the "Obsessed" single, Todd. Here's the rundown:

Mariah Carey - Obsessed (Walmart exclusive, Island B0013290-32, UPC 602527146386) (all lossless)

1. Obsessed (Main) (actual 4:03)
2. Obsessed (Remix feat. Gucci Mane) (actual 4:25)

I have the Taylor Hicks CD as well and can verify that it also is lossless.

Thanks, Paul! Damn, I have GOT to start making more trips out to Walmart. How did I miss all of these? How did I miss "California Gurls" and "DJ Got Us Falling In Love" and "Whatcha Say"? I had no idea most of the post-2008 singles on this list had been released.

You beat me to it, Paul. I picked up that and several of the others at Walmart yesterday. (Ordered store pickup for some of them.)

I have now verified all tracks on these recent singles as lossless:

One Direction - Live While We're Young
Katy Perry - California Gurls
The Wanted - Glad You Came
Tim McGraw - Truck Yeah
Lionel Richie & Shania Twain - Endless Love
OMG - Where The Boys At?
Jay-Z - Run This Town (also the single speed)

Curiously, Justin Bieber's "Boyfriend" does NOT appear to be lossless. It's really hard to tell on that one, and I could be wrong, but I see a faint amount of information at the top of the spectrum on the HitDisc promo sampler version that seems to be cut out of the Walmart single.

I don't think all Walmarts carry them...I didn't see any at either of the 2 stores closest to me. The $5 bin at both stores just had what appeared to be cutouts or budget full CDs. Maybe it's at the discretion of the store manager?

I'm pretty sure that most Walmarts carry these, although some parts of the country might be better stocked than others. Most of the local Walmarts here in the Milwaukee area only get about 5-10 copies of these singles and they tend to sell-out pretty fast. I think that the music inventory is stocked by an outside company, so the selections tend to be pretty uniform from store-to-store. I rarely find the singles in the $5 budget section, they are usually on the end-cap displays with the other new releases (although I've also found them in the regular A-Z artist section). If all else fails, you can check online.

As mentioned, this is a wide release. I saw it at both Best Buy and Walmart today.

Here's the information for another current U.S. CD single:

Britney Spears - Ooh La La (Kemosabe/RCA 74574 - Walmart exclusive)
1. Ooh La La - Britney Spears
2. Vacation - G.R.L.

This song just hit the Hot 100 this week and isn't in the Top 40 (yet) - but since it's a major artist, I thought I'd post it. BTW, it's from the upcoming "The Smurfs 2" movie.

So grateful for threads like this. I'd have no idea what was out or where to get these limited release singles without it.

Thanks!
