So this was news to me. Sorry if it's not news to
everyone else here. I was glancing through the booklet
of U2's 18 Singles CD and I was a bit taken aback to
notice than no songs from "All That You Can't Leave
Behind" or "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" were
officially released as singles in the US.

That is surprising because I remember songs like
"Beautiful Day", "Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out
Of" and "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own"
blanketing the airwaves and video channels. Not to
mention rockers "Elevation" and "Vertigo" which also
got used in multiple commercials.

So is this true? Is there no US chart data for those U2
singles? Surely the airplay was through the roof for
most of them.

Did Casey Kasem include any of them in his countdowns?

They had several songs during that period that charted either on the Hot 100 or Bubbling Under charts. There probably weren't commercial singles for them at the time because the labels had already been trying to get away from releasing singles for several years in hopes of pushing up album sales. Billboard started allowing Airplay-Only songs on the main Hot 100 in December 1998, so they did have some chart hits after then despite not having physical singles released for them. A few of those might have had 7 or 12 Inch Vinyl Singles released, but I don't think sales of those counted for much (if at all) for a song's placement on the Hot 100.

I just checked my Whitburn and counted 9 charted U2
songs between 00 and 05. Only 2 of them ("Beautiful
Day" and "Vertigo") list catalog #s, so it appears the
rest were airplay hits with no commercially available
single. Keep in mind that by the 00s, very few physical
singles were released.
As to why the band didn't include any of these songs on
their CD, I have no idea. When was the disc released?

According to Discogs, the compilation was released in 2006 and does include "Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of". "Elevation", "Vertigo", "Beautiful Day" and "Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own".

There must have been promo singles released because TM
Studios lists radio edits for:

Stuck In A Moment You Can't Get Out Of
Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own

All the others were the same as the album versions.

The only commercially released singles were...

Beautiful Day - Island 562972 (12" vinyl only)
Vertigo - Island 003580 (7" vinyl only)

Yeah, 2000 was around the time record companies stopped
releasing commercial singles to force people to buy the
whole album. "Vertigo" was a stand-alone digital single
in the US.

The songs are included but the liner note information
indicates chart info only for the UK. In the US chart
info section, it indicates "not commercially released
in the US".
