Is it true that certain CD releases
of the OST to the film Philadelphia contain different versions of the song "Streets of Philadelphia" by Bruce Springsteen. In Discogs there are releases where the song runs 3:53 with a printed time of 3:51 on the CD, but in other releases it has printed time of 4:13 on the CD but still runs 3:51. I recall hearing a 4:13 version, but I don't if that version appears on any CD release of the Philadelphia OST. Can anyone help me with this, and how different are the 3:53 and 4:13 versions in comparison to the single edit which runs 3:15? |

Yes, some copies of the soundtrack run 4:13, while others run 3:51. As far as I know, it's just a longer fade on the 4:13 soundtrack version. The 3:15 version, I believe, is unique to the Greatest Hits CD.

The 3:51 version was the Single Version, if I recall. I know sometimes labels replace songs on albums with a single version after it becomes a hit, but if that's what they did in this case, you have to wonder why they'd bother if the only difference between the 3:51 and 4:13 versions is a longer fade.
The 3:15 version does seem to be exclusive to the Greatest Hits CD, as I've never seen it anywhere else, and it's not even on any of the promos listed on Discogs for the song. I don't know the total running time of the GH disc offhand, but I know the version of "Glory Days" on GH is faded early as well, so I'm thinking maybe they had to do a few edits/fades to accommodate all the songs on it. |

That's true, it's even shorter than the 3:15 GH Edit. |

The music video also contains a live vocal (recorded on-
location, in one shot you can just barely see the earpiece in Bruce's ear which is feeding him the backing track). Edited by LunarLaugh |

Regarding the 3:15 version, obviously they shortened "Streets of Philadelphia" and other tracks on Springsteen's Greatest Hits CD in order to fit 18 tracks on a single CD. Too bad they didn't release a 2-CD Bruce Springsteen compilation in the 1990's which could have been way the better than the actual GH album released in 1995. This same 3:15 version for some reason also appears on the 2003 compilation The Essential Bruce Springsteen. |

It should be marked in the database as Neither the 45 or LP version. |
