Hi Pat,
The database will need an update for this song.
A friend with a really good ear pointed this out to me. I
never once noticed myself. There are two versions of this
song out there, and only one of them is the 45 version.

I'm going to call the "other" version "alternate" for now
because I don't know what it is but it is indeed a
different mix than the 45 mix. It might be an LP version
but I have no idea.

All versions on CD are the same recording but here are
some mix differences:
1) The 45 is pitched faster than the alternate.
2) The 45 version has more reverb than the alternate.
3) The alternate has an electric guitar overdub
throughout that is not on the 45. It plays a melody
during the 2 bridges that is not on the 45.
4) The 45 has a bass guitar overdub that is not on the
alternate.
5) The 45 has a different ending. When you speed up the
alternate, it syncs with the 45 until the ending coda
where they sing "i'm yours"...the 45 has that part
spliced on from a different take and they finish in a
higher key, and also it has extra guitar notes over the
word "yours." The alternate only has a 3-note guitar
finish there.

Pat, if you're checking CDs, the easiest way to compare
them is to go right to the ending word. You'll easily
hear the different guitars. But I can at least save you
the trouble for the CDs I own:

(M) (3:14) Laurie 4098 Music To Relax By Volume One - 20
Rock & Roll Classics (45 Version but way too slow,
mastered from vinyl)

(E) (3:12) K-Tel 787 Girls Girls Girls (alternate)

(M) (3:10) Time-Life 2RNR-11 Rock 'N' Roll Era - 1960
(alternate)

(M) (3:11) Rhino 71581 Billboard Top Pop Hits, 1960
(alternate)

(M) (3:08) Collectors' Choice 5189 I Wish I Were A
Princess - The Great Lost Female Teen Idols (45
Version)

(M) (3:11) Varese Sarabande 302066477 Girls! Girls!
Girls! (alternate)

Good news is most of us who collect this era probably
have the Collector's Choice CD above which is one of the
very few that actually have the correct 45 version (from
a master tape).
Edit: the correct 45 version also appears on the Ace UK
CD "Golden Age Of American Rock N Roll Vol 1"

I'm sure this "alternate" version probably is the album
version (?) since the master for it seems so predominant
in the U.S. But I have no idea.

MM
