I do not think CKLW was ever exempt from the Canadian content rules. That is one of the issues that helped put this this giant to rest.

For the July 2, 2001 "Crap From The Past" show, we featured seven versions of "The Americans":
THE AMERICANS (A CANADIAN'S OPINION) - Gordon Sinclair (1974) AMERICANS - Byron MacGregor (1974) THE AMERICANS (A CANADIAN'S OPINION) - Jim Aylward (1974) A PHONE CALL TO THE AMERICANS - Albert Brooks (1975) THE AMERICANS (A CANADIAN'S OPINION) - Tex Ritter (1974) AN AMERICAN'S ANSWER (TO GORDON SINCLAIR) - Charles Ashman (1974) A EUROPEAN (SPEAKS UP FOR THE U.S.) - Guido Sarducci (1974) You can hear the whole thing here. I'm scarred for life from this particular episode. Edited by crapfromthepast |

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

You are correct. The CKLW tribute site goes into some detail on this, it also addresses "The Americans". Despite not having been updated in 10 years, there's good reading if you have any interest in this station. |
