It's really strange ... I am the owner of two 78s from
"The Third Man" Theme - London 536
Both have the same matrix #s DR.14268 but a different
label text. AND each version has a different arrangement
from the other in the final 30 seconds of the song,
that's strange!

Version 1: The 78 with DR.14268 (536-A) has the same text
as the label shown first with the YouTube from
BigBadBluesMan here DDR.14059 (536-A) but sounds
different!:

“THE THIRD MAN” THEME (Anton Karas)
From the A. David O. Selznick and Sir Alexander Korda
production THE THIRD MAN
ANTON KARAS – Zither Solo
As performed by him in the Film

Version 2: The other 78 with DR.14268 (536-A) only
indicates
“THE THIRD MAN” THEME (Anton Karas)
from "The Third Man"
ANTON KARAS – Zither Solo

The matrix # DDR.14059 that can be heard in YouTube
corresponds to my version 2! And it's identical with the
current ebay offer mentioned.

Additionally, it would be interesting how the 45 version
sounds ... (btw, it has a totally different matrix #
MRBF-365)

Chatfan, we did a lot of research on this track a few
months ago, including obtaining the original 45.

Every pressing of this song sounds relatively the same.
The 45 sounds like it was mastered from a 78. But all
copies originate from optical soundtrack of the film
because he played it live on set. The optical track was
very noisy. So right off the master, this sounds like a
78 dub but it isn't.

Your 2nd mystery version on 78 is intriguing, because all
copies we found are same edit. To extend the performance,
at 1:26 they spliced the first 35 secs of the song onto
the end.
I'm very curious to hear the version that is different
from that. MM

Coming back a bit late but now I had the possibility to
record my two versions.

The following three version from the discussions and
video presentations sound identical, see -->

http://www.45worlds.com/78rpm/record/f9235 (English DECCA
78rpm version) matrix DDR-14059

http://www.45worlds.com/78rpm/record/536 (London 78rpm
version, Made in England) matrix DDR-14059

http://www.45cat.com/record/30005 (London 45rpm version,
Made in USA) matrix MRBF-365

MY TWO VERSIONS are labeled and sound differently:

Version 1: The 78 with DR.14268 (536-A) has the same text
as the label shown first with the YouTube from
BigBadBluesMan here DDR.14059 (536-A) but sounds
differently!:

“THE THIRD MAN” THEME (Anton Karas)
From the A. David O. Selznick and Sir Alexander Korda
production THE THIRD MAN
ANTON KARAS – Zither Solo
As performed by him in the Film

After about 1:27 the melody is totally different in the
middle and the end compared with the three versions
mentioned above. Interesting: there is an engraving on
the disc outside the label: DR.12468-2

Version 2: The other 78 with DR.14268 (536-A) only
indicates
“THE THIRD MAN” THEME (Anton Karas)
from "The Third Man"
ANTON KARAS – Zither Solo

This version sounds to me as the three versions in the
45/7rpm forums but with another end (btw the same end as
my version 1), and there is another engraving on the disc
outside the label: DR.14268-IF

Here you can compare my labels and versions:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/tj7abmy9hobiapp/Version2_ThirdM
anTheme-label_LON536-A%2CDR.12468-IF.jpg?dl=0

Conclusion: There were three different sounding single
versions, the one with matrices 14059 or -365 and those
with matrices DR.14268-2 and -IF, issued later than the
DR.14059 in the US (what can be seen with the higher
matrix #.).

Unfortunately I could not find any discography for London
label #s and matrices ....
