My commercial 45, confirmed as Parkway 896, with deadwax info of "HR-
1087-631", has a listed time of (2:45), but an actual time of (3:08). This info now brings the song into line, time-wise, with its six current db CDs, which all run between (3:08) and (3:10). |

i just A/B'ed the stereo version versus the 45 and the
vinyl 45, which is in mono, has lots of echo/reverb while the stereo version is dry....can anyone else confirm my findings?...this entry may need to be revised to 'LP version' for the stereo entries, which all of them are....mark, could convert the stereo version to mono and send me a copy so i can compare....in addition i also have the 1963 release on nicetown 5020 and it contains the echo as well.. Wasn't its stereo debut on the Cameo Parkway 1957-1967 box set?

Did this song ever appear on a vinyl album in 1964 either in mono or stereo? I do not believe it did and if it did not then there really was never an LP version so a comment to the effect that all current cd appearances remove the 45 reverb may be in order.

I agree with you, Pat. The BSN site's Parkway LP discography lists their
early 1965 album, "On Stage" (Parkway 7043), and the song is not included. (Besides, this LP was only issued in mono.) However, in a rather unusual move for the times, the label designed a special LP cover for "On Stage", allowing them to place a bonus 45 of "You'll Never Walk Alone" inside. This bonus 45's label was visible through a designed cutout area, below a large red and white arrow that stated "Plus - Free Bonus Record". But the included bonus Parkway 45 was in mono, just as its 1964 commercial 45 was. I also checked the group's 1963 "Sweethearts Of The Apollo" LP, on Newtown 631, and the song does not appear on it. (Turns out this LP was also only issued in mono, as well.) "You'll Never Walk Alone" had first been issued as a 45 back in 1963, as Nicetown 5020 - I assume the minor label name difference was simply due to Newtown money troubles/an attempt to sustain operations (likely the very same reason it soon ended up being on Parkway), as the Nicetown label # sequence for it exactly followed their 5 previous Newtown 45 releases - the fifth being Newtown 5019.) Due to this earlier, non-hit release, I thought an earlier stereo LP appearance might be possible, but no. My conclusion: there was never an "LP version" for the song, during its heyday.
