I know the 45 version is available on "Best Of: 20th Century Masters – The Millennium Collection". However, I sampled this disc and it is too loud and dynamically compressed for my taste. I once had an MP3 copy of the 45 version with nice dynamic range which appeared to be from a digital source. Does anyone know if that version may have come from an import (non-US) compilation from the pre- "loudness era" of CDs?

The 45 edit is easy to recreate, if you want to use an
older source. At one point I had an '80s-era greatest hits from them (I don't recall the title), and there's also a nice-sounding version on Time-Life's 2-CD Modern Rock Vol. 3 1984-1985 (1999) - both are the LP version. I didn't keep very good notes, but the 45 has an edit at 3:00 and has a 16-beat fade starting at 3:52. |

There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.
