Folks,

While doing some Internet spelunking I saw mention that the 45 of Steppenwolf's "Hey Lawdy Mama" actually runs (3:21)--which an e-Bay listing seems to corroborate. All CD appearances run in the (2:52-2:54) range. Safe to assume that those appearances are LP versions or LP lengths?

LP 'versions'.

The mono single goes on almost a half-minute longer (fading out on another lyrical chorus), but it doesn't have the wah-wah guitar that's in the stereo LP mix.

[The chorus is not to be confused with the "It's all right / Hey Lawdy Mama" hook.]

I prefer the mono mix, and I'm a BIG stereo fan.

Pat, since there is still no current database notation for this song, I'd just like to reiterate Doug and Andy's observations above. My commercial 45, which is mono, has a listed time of (3:21) and an actual time of (3:19); whereas all current database CD appearances run between (2:52) and (2:55).

Has anyone ever found the longer mono 45 version on an
import CD? This one is probably doomed to never exist on CD
(except for the shorter stereo LP version).

It's on the recent (and very expensive) Japanese SHM Steppenwolf Live CD, but if you're primarily interested in the mono bonus singles on any of these new Steppenwolf SHM CDs, keep in mind what Aaron said about them over on the "Joy To The World" thread:

I can say with 100% certainty that they are all vinyl 45 dubs--and not very good ones. There's lots of groove distortion, and the overall sound is muddy on all of them.
