Does anyone know the details concerning the U.S. 45 of this track? (The
U.K. 45 on Parlophone was the entire recording). The wikipedia article on it states that the "blue" version was the 45, and that the "black" version turned up later on an LP. I was informed by a trustworthy source that the original 45 was the "black" version, and the "blue" version was the 2nd issue. Can anyone confirm? If both were issued on 45, would this mean BOTH were the hit? The "blue" version is not yet on a US CD. Anyone know if it is on an import? I was sent a dub of the 45, and it contains reverb not as prominent on the CD versions of the track that I have. So, was the "black" 45 full of reverb as well? Edited by davidclark |

I can't help with the reverb but the black version WAS issued first and then quickly withdrawn in America and replaced by the blue version. Both exist on United Artists 45s. I don't know which version my white label promo has but I'm inclined to believe it's the blue in the face version (without access to it I can't check it quickly). Both weren't the hit because the black version was not available very long in America. A friend of mine in Canada says their 45 (on Capitol) has the full 4 minute version of the song with the black lyric, though.
