I've been trying to get to the bottom of the oft-discussed "45 mix" of My Sweet Lord. I've read from several sources that the 45 has slightly differing backing vocals and perhaps different percussion. I don't have an original 45 of the song, but I've been told that the version on the Capitol Records 8-CD 50th Anniversary box set (promo only) is the single version. I compared that to the album version and here are my conclusions:
- The Captiol 50th version runs 1% faster than the album version. - I detect no significant backing vocal or percussion variations, other than perhaps slight mix differences. - The Capitol 50th track fades out about 3 seconds earlier than the album version. Total run time: 4:33 (shorter than the posted single run time). So, is this the single version faded early? Does the 45 run faster than the LP version? I can provide a copy of this version if anyone is interested. |

My original Apple promo 45 runs 4:38, although the audio
is very faint at the end. GM Edited by Gary Mack |

Getting back to Ringmaster_D's initial post, has anyone ever been able to verify whether or not the commercial 45 release of George Harrison's "My Sweet Lord" consists of a different mix than the LP?

I did a comparison between the 45 (an early pressing with the black star)and the album version. I couldn't detect any difference other than a very slight speed difference. The 45 is slightly faster, but there isn't a difference is percussion, etc...
I compared a cd version from The Best Of George Harrison, and it runs faster than the 45. |

I've done a lot of listening to the original 45 and LP to try to find a difference, but I have yet to find a difference. The mix seems to be the same on every vinyl or CD issue I've heard.

Thanks for the input, Kerry and Bill. Until someone can actually cite some specific points where the two differ, I'm going to assume the 45 and LP of "My Sweet Lord" are the same.
