As I recall the 45 has reverb added to the last 20 seconds or so

i just compared my vinyl 45 versus the version on the
anthology cd and if there is a difference, it's negligible
to my ears.....maybe it's that my vinyl 45 is kind of beat
up, maybe someone could be more specific about the
differences....

Yes there is unusual deep reverb on the lead vocal on the last 15 seconds or so on the original 45. Later issues of the 45 may be missing that reverb, I'm not sure. My mono LP version does NOT feature that reverb.

The deep reverb begins on my 45 at about the 1:45 mark and, in my opinion, it's segue'd nicely following the scream - "AAAWWWWW (reverb) talk about the magic..."

I think that's the only difference, but it's very obvious on my 45, especially compared to the cd versions.

This is a band which was far better in mono. Loved the punchy mixes with vocals up front and better sounding bass and drums. And they are lost or destroyed to the best of my knowledge though UK dubs might be extant.
I turn up the good and turn down the bad!

So...is the added reverb at the end the ONLY difference between the mono 45 mix and the stereo/mono LP mixes?

I have several mono sources to compare so here goes. I have three orginal singles, the "Do You Believe In Magic" mono LP and "The Best of the Lovin' Spoonful" in mono. It's quite possible that the mono LP copies are fold
downs of the stereo with some added compression. As far as other differences in the mix, (outside of the ending) there are speed and other mix differences. On all three copies of my 45, the song fades down and then
completely cuts out on the word "like". The LP versions do not do that, they fade out naturally. Here's other comparisons:

All label times and running times except for one of my mono vinyl sources were 2:05, one label time was 2:17 (run time 2:05) and another copy was slowed WAY down and got to 2:08 (label time 2:05)

Sources:

45 on The "redder" Kama Sutra label, wax KA 201 65-UT-0010-Bell, Time is printed on the left as 2:17 but runs 2:05
45 on the "redder" Kama Sutra label, wax KA 201 65-UT-0010-Bell-1, Time is printed on the right as 2:05 (correct) and syncs up with the above 45

The above two 45's are the fastest pitch.

45 on the more "yellow" Kama Sutra label, may be a later issue, wax KA 201 65-UT-0010-R-1. Noticably slower, same fade out as the "redder" Kama Sutra copies, but runs 2:08 (label time 2:05). I don't think this is a boot, it
was used at a radio station and has station stickers on it.

"Do You Believe in Magic" mono LP and "Best of Lovin' Spoonful" mono LP: Both run 2:05 and don't feature the reverb at the end. Possibly stereo fold downs.

There is another mix difference on all three of the 45's checked, at 1:33 on the "redder" 45s and 1:35 on the "yellow" 45, the background vocals come on loud and then are quickly lowered.. unlike the mono LP versions and
stereo CD that I checked, where the background vocal levels don't get that loud and basicallly stay the same.

I don't have stereo Kama Sutra source to compare, but my Rhino CD runs 2:04 in stereo.. as far as speed, here's the ranking from fastest to slowest

"Redder" 45 (2:05)
Rhino CD (2:04)
Best of Lovin Spoonful (mono) (2:05)
Do You Believe in Magic (mono) (2:05)
Yellow 45 runs 2:08

Not sure of when or where I acquired my file copy of
this song. Info says it comes from "Greatest Hits
(Buddha)." It sounds like echo on the end, but the
question is does it match the 45?

I don't see Buddha Greatest Hits listed in the database,
at least not in mono.
