The Deluxe Edition of "The Who Sell Out" contains the album in mono. The database currently lists "I Can See For Miles" as the "LP version" even in the mono mix/speed. Is there something different about the mono LP vs the mono 45 mix?

Also, even though the entries say "LP version," the song notes at the top say "45 length" and "LP length."

Aaron, the U.S. Decca 32206 45 has an added bass guitar overdub that is not on the LP version.

It is available on an import, I believe, called Direct Hits.

Good call, John! I'm cancelling my order for the Deluxe CD. I listened to the amazon.com snippet, and it is missing the bass overdub.

Looks like it was only issued on CD in Japan. Cheapest copy is $58.00. Yikes.

There are three stereo mixes of "I Can See For Miles" that have been released and I'm not sure which was the original.

But I do know that the mix that is contained on the original "Meaty Beaty Big and Bouncy" and also heard on the "Then and Now" CD has the channels panning back and forth during the guitar break and extra reverb added on the vocals on the fade out. I'm guessing that's the original LP mix.

The mix on My Generation "The Very Best of the Who" and "20th Century Masters" does not feature the panning or extra reverb at the end. I'm guessing that this is a digital era remix. Might be worth noting "remix".

The database also lists the version on OST The Kids Are Alright as a "re-recording" but I believe that's another remix, done for the original vinyl LP, and it sounds very different because it splits the double vocals to left and right channels and moves one of the instrumental tracks to the center. It gives the song more center but reduces one of the guitars, making it sound different, but I believe it's the same recording.

So, should we simply note the remixes?

Yeah I know Pat loves it when I ask these questions on songs with 24 entries in the database! But hey, this is the most accurate music database in the world. Well worth the subscription.

i just received wave files of the 45 version of the song
from brian from the cd 'direct hits' and from john from the
cd 'the singles' both imports and the song runs 4:01...the
vinyl 45 runs 3:59....so you'll need to pitch it up
slightly to match the vinyl 45 speed...also convert the
file to mono and you have the 45 version......in
addition....my vinyl 45 lists the run time on the label as
3:55 but actually runs 3:59.....this also s/b added to the
db

So do these mixes contain the extra bass overdub that
was on the US 45?

I see that the Who have released their umpteenth compilation set, "Maximum
A's & B's" on MCA. The question is, did they finally put the proper U.S. 45
version of "I Can See For Miles" on this set? Has anybody gotten this yet to
check?
