   On this past weekend's AT40 '80s rebroadcast from this week in 1981, 

Casey Kasem played the single version of "Fool In Love With You" 

and I noticed for the first time that the vocal actually seems to be 

slightly different than the album version.  In another thread we 

discussed how to edit the album version to get the single, but I think 

they may be two different vocal takes. 

If anyone else has the single and the LP version, I'd love to get a 

second opinion. And before anyone asks, I am not talking about the 

re-recording he did of this song years later.

	I don't have the LP version to compare, but I did transfer a copy of the 45, which is what I use as my source. Does anyone have the vinyl LP that they would be able to compare the 45 to?

	Yes, I have both and have compared them. All the performances differ obviously. Aaron, I sent you an MP3 file of the LP via e-mail. Check again, please. 	Thanks to abagon, I was able to compare his LP copy with the 45, and there are obvious differences. Other than the cymbal taps, there is an additional edit on the intro. The vocal on the LP comes in at :34, whereas it comes in at :24 on the 45. The 45 also runs slower than the LP's speed. They are certainly different mixes; however, I haven't been able to detect any differences in the vocal take.

	Another homemade edit by TM Century on their GD3. They use a :34 intro with a starting fade at 3:24 ending at 3:30. My ears detect vinyl rumble, and it may be slightly pitched. I should start a list of songs they've 'made us to believe' are the real hit versions. Could you send me the official 45 version to compare?

	David, it's probably a case where they did a vinyl dub (not a homemade edit). Even lots of their GD3s contain vinyl dubs if it was the only source they had for a particular song. I can name tons of TM tracks off the top of my head, though, that are incorrect homemade edits.

	I've revisited this song recently and my findings affect some of the above info so here goes: There were TWO different recordings of this and THREE versions of it back in 1981. My copy of the LP contained this version, which is also the 1st pressing LP version: k44TM">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6GaI- k44TM EDIT: WRONG! See updated info below. I bought the first pressing LP version and for 40 years I thought that was the hit version. Wrong. After that LP was released, I assume quickly, he went back into the studio and completely re-recorded the song. That 2nd pressing LP version can be heard here: yK5SCw">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HphS- yK5SCw You'll hear the whole new backing track and whole new vocal performance. Then there's the 45 mix. The 45 was a remix of version 2 above. They mixed it differently, changed some effects, and changed the single-drum-beat intro to 3 cymbal taps instead. They also edited the music intro :10 shorter (as Aaron notes above). Sadly the 45 does not appear on Youtube so I have no link to that. So the folks who were hearing a different vocal take between their LP and the 45 no doubt have the 1st pressing LP version. The folks who did not hear a different vocal have the 2nd pressing LP version. So to conclude we have: 1) Version 1 - 1st LP version, has drum-roll intro. 2) Version 2 - 2nd pressing LP version, new recording, single-drum hit intro. 3) Version 3 - 45 version, a remix and edit of version 2, has 3 cymbal tap intro. And the only one of these versions to ever make it to CD is Version 2 - the 2nd pressing LP version. It was on CD in Japan. I don't know how long ago. EDIT UPDATE: gathering info from Andy and Ron I now believe the first link I posted above is NOT the 1st pressing LP version. as mentioned below, it a 1993 remake. So that leaves only TWO versions from 1981: the LP version and the 45 version. Sorry about that! Edited by MMathews

	Hi Mark: Could you kindly recheck to see if your LP is an original 20th Century Fox Records pressing? The reason I ask is the 'Version 1' YouTube version you linked is the same as my Japan CD 'Passage' version which Jim Photoglo re-recorded in Nashville with a publishing date of 1993. Totally different musician and production credits were on this CD and Jim's vocal register was lower because he was older. I would love to hear a needledrop of your version, if indeed it is circa 1981. Great song!! Andy
