my commercial cassingle issued as sbk 07356 states the version as the "radio edit" on both the cassingle as well as the sleeve with a stated run time of 4:09......i found the proper 45/cassingle version on the uk import cd single.....does anyone know if this version is different than the album version that runs the same length???

I just pulled my cassette single out and the "radio edit" included has the vocals moved up in the mix and the ladies have less reverb with a drier sound, and the percussion is punchier overall than the album version. It's not terribly obvious, but it is a mix difference.

I played the Radio Edit a little while ago and noticed that in between the first chorus and second verse, there is a "whoa-oh-oh" by Carnie that isn't present at the same point on the album version. |

There is a Greatest Hits CD listed in the database that Pat currently lists as having a "remix" running 4:09. Could this be the Radio Edit from the cassette single?

I have the Greatest Hits CD, and the version on there is labelled as "AC Mix". The main guitar heard on the Album Version and Radio Edit appear to be pushed farther back on the AC Mix, almost to the point of being barely noticeable. Here's the AC Mix on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_P8YfJGFFM So it would appear that there's at least three different mixes of the song: The Album Version, Radio Edit (which was used on the commercial single) and the AC Mix. However, I'm not sure where the AC Mix originated from. None of the configurations of the single listed on Discogs have an AC Mix even as a B- Side. And the AC Mix also has that "whoa-oh-oh" from Carnie that I mentioned earlier. |

Wow, that's interesting. I wonder if another yet-to-be-documented promo CD is floating around with the AC Mix. It wouldn't surprise me, given that several other songs during this time period have separately issued promo CDs with AC mixes.

That seems like a definite possibilty,
Aaron. I noticed that Alias' "Waiting For Love" from the same year had a separate promo with a "Hot A/C Mix", and they were on the same label as Wilson Phillips, I believe. (SBK Records that WP were on fell under the Capitol umbrella, I think). |
