My commercial 45, which is mono and confirmed as White Whale 249, has a listed time of (2:17), but an actual time of (2:09). FYI, current database CDs for this song have run times ranging from (2:14) to (2:19).

Thanks, Jim.
Does anybody own the import Turtles "Happy Together" CD on the Repertoire label? It's got the mono 45 version of "She'd Rather Be With Me" as a bonus track. It's long out of print, and I can't find it anywhere for under $75. |

my commercial 45 issued as white whale 249 states the run
time on the label as 2:17 and only runs 2:09 like jim's...it is sped up slightly versus the 2:17 cd versions.....in addition it fades out early...you'll need to fade for 0:13 from 1:56 to 2:09 to match the vinyl 45 version perfectly.... |

Is the mono version a fold down or dedicated mono mix?

It's a dedicated mono mix, John: Howard's vocals are more up-front on the 45 than they are on the stereo track when summed to mono. However, the group harmony is a bit more buried in the mono mix. As is the case with several other White Whale 45s, there are noticeable differences between the various pressings. Here's the scoop on the two stock 45s I have: Columbia Terre Haute pressing (CTH): deadwax matrix: W-165..RE1...1A...............TI actual time: (2:10) dry mix Monarch pressing: deadwax matrix: W-165-45......(Monarch "MR" logo)..... delta number 66474 actual time: (2:09) wetter mix, with more reverb throughout ------------ The CTH 45 plays at a faster speed than the Monarch; so much so that the fade runs about another 2.7 seconds beyond the point of the song where the Monarch fade ends (enough to get an additional "you know she'd rather be with me" in.) The fade begins earlier on the CTH, but is more gradually-sloped than on the Monarch. In addition to the wetter mix, the Monarch 45 is more compressed than the CTH. To my ears, the Monarch sounds brighter and has more energy and punch to it than the CTH. |

FYI: I've got the UK 45 version (London HLU 10135) - mono - running 2.17. To my ears the Reportire version (stated mono single mix on cover) match this version perfect. However; I am not able to hear that much difference between the LP mix (also running 2:17 but stereo)) and the single mix, except the stereo / mono difference. But I don't have any PC tools available that can help me in that matter, and my ears are not that good (as several on this board) so I can pinpoint small differences like dry / wetter mixes. I have read that US 45 mix is probably not the same as UK mix, but I don't own the US 45. So, if someone want to compare the Reportaire (or UK 45) with the US 45 version I can supply with the UK 45 and / or the Rep. CD version.
