I'm a little confused about the two mixes floating
around.

The loud stand-alone guitar note at 2:28 is in both
channels for 20th Century Masters The Millennium
Collection
(1999; 6:16 LP version) and My
Generation The Very Best Of
(1996; 4:58 UK 45
version).

The same note is in the right channel for Who's
Better Who's Best
(1988; 5:02 UK 45 version) and
Aaron's (undoubtedly accurate) recreation of the 6:06
long promo version).

Can anyone confirm what the original vinyl mixes had?
I know The Who had some remixes floating around in
their catalog, but I don't know their stuff nearly
well enough to discern the original mix from a modern
remix.
There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.

The Internet tells me that "Who Are You" was remixed
in 1996, so I'd bet that everything pre-1996 was the
original mix.

So my guess is that the original mixes had the loud
stand-alone guitar note at 2:28 in the right channel.
Still can't confirm with vinyl, though.

I found a website that claims that the original LP mix
ran 6:22, the 1996 remix of the LP version ran 6:16,
and there's a "lost verse" mix running 6:18 that
includes lyrics in the second verse which were
different from the released version. What a mess.
There's a lot of crap on the radio, but there's only one Crap From The Past.
