This song is not in the database, but it did peak at #39 in BB, in the summer of 1980. I only have a commercial 45 for this, and it has the same Chrysalis stock # (2410) that is shown in my Whitburn book. My 45 has a listed time of (3:48), but an actual time of (3:17). My "Platinum Collection" version runs (3:47), and features a different intro than my 45 does, while my "Best Of Blondie" CD version runs (4:41), and DOES feature the same intro as my 45. My 45's deadwax is "CHS-2410-AS". Does anyone else happen to have a stock and/or a promo 45, with an actual time closer to my "listed" (3:48) 45 time, like the version on the "Platinum Collection" CD?

jim...my commercial 45 issued as chrysalis 2410 states a run time of 3:48 and truely does run that length and is identical to the cd version from her greatest hits cd....the markings on the run out groove are "chs-2410-as-ct2"...further down the groove it says what looks like "mca-81"....maybe there are 2 commercial releases for this song.....

I used to have the promo single and I remember it sounded similar to the version on the "Platinum Collection" CD. I have noticed a few instances where the promo single versions of songs appear on "greatest hits" collections.

I also believe the version of Rapture on the "Platinum Collection" is the short promo single version.

I have noticed some music differences, but don't recall the time differences.
Atomic LP version has the "three blind mice" intro, but my 45, and Platinum collection do not have that intro. I have found for Rapture, the LP and 45 are almost identical, with no drum intro, but the Best of Blondie and Platinum collection both have the drum intro(?) |

According to Pat, the LP & 45 ARE identical for "Rapture." The Best Of Blondie and DJ edit versions are both edits of the same mix (perhaps the 12" mix?). For sure, you cannot edit the Best Of Blondie version to make the DJ edit. I believe I tried that one time, and it didn't work; there's different edit points. |

Can someone elaborate on "rapture." I always assumed that the long 45 version was the one played on the radio. I'm assuming it was the DJ edit. Can someone tell me the differences between all the original versions (not the K-Klass remix versions).

For "Rapture," I think it goes something like this (correct me if I'm wrong, as I'm going from memory):
original LP & 45 version 12" mix promo 45 version (edit of 12" mix) Best Of Blondie version (different edit of 12" mix) |

That's right.
The LP and commercial 45 ran something like 6:33, and started with no drums. As I remember, this version didn't get a lot of airplay. The promo 45 ran about 4:57, and that's the version that's on the 2-CD Platinum Collection. Aside from being a different edit, it's got extra bells and whistles in it. (Literally.) This is the version that I remember hearing on the air in NYC. There was a brand new mix done for the Best Of Blondie LP, just like for "Heart Of Glass". This one starts with a few measures of drums before the rest of the instruments kick in. It's the one that runs about 5:37 and turns up everywhere. Too bad that virtually every compilation I've seen uses this version instead of another. There's also a monstrous 10-minute version on the Just Can't Get Enough - Dance compilation CD from Rhino. I haven't tried editing it down to form any of the other versions, though. |
