There is a slight difference between the 45 and LP versions of "Changes In Latitudes, Changes In Attitudes".

About a minute into the song, the LP lyric is "son of a bitches" and the 45 lyric is "some bruises and stitches". I guess "son of a bitches" was a little too much for Top 40 radio back in 1977.

The only Buffett CD I have is the Songs You Know By Heart/Greatest Hits and on there it's the LP lyric.

Paul you made my day with this catch. For those interested, the edit occurs at 1:32 into the song. The 45 version has not appeared on a domestic cd to date.

Just got in a nice, clean promo 45 for this song. Reason I wanted to get the 45 was because of the lyrics that Paul mentioned. Listed and actual time is 3:15, which I believe is the same run time as the LP version.

I believe the "bruises & stitches" version is what's on the TM GoldDisc (which makes sense since about the only place you'd be likely to hear this today would be an AC station).

I don't think the song ever charted, but his "Door Number 3" also had lyric differences between LP and 45 versions. The LP version had "I didn't get rich, you son of a b--ch", I forget exactly what replaced it on the single...I'll have to dig it out & give it a listen.

Steve:

Correct, it's on a couple GoldDiscs (1768R and 312N) and the version description says [No S.O.B.'s Edit].
They also have the LP version on 312N.

At an oldies station I used to work at, we had the GoldDisc 1768. We did play "Changes..." frequently and I can verify that it is indeed the edit.

Later on I wished I had copied it because I had no idea how rare it was. Thankfully awhile back Steve was able to send me an MP3 dub of his 45 :) Thanks Steve!

I agree, it's a great catch. Good going, Paul. And if I might add one picky PS... The ending note is cut short on the CD. If my timing is correct, the CD ending note runs a hair over 6.1 seconds, while the 45 ending note runs a thrill-packed and exciting 7.8 seconds. Does anyone know if this 45 version exists on an import anywhere?

I just pasted the censored section from my promo 45
into the LP version. First of all, I had to swap channels
on the LP version to match the 45. There was some tweaking
of the EQ to get the files to match but it can be done.

The resung lyric isn't as centered as the rest of the
song. I opted to keep my promo 45 dub in my library
because of the eq differences.

Doing a comparison between the LP version and 45 version, and it's a different mix from start-to-finish. I didn't notice any different instrumentation, but the channel placement of various elements are different.

Also, the TM Century disc is the LP version with a failed attempt at editing in the alternate lyrics. The actual line in the 45 is "good times and riches some bruises and stitches..." The TM version misses the edit point, so it has "...and bruises and stitches..."
