My commercial 45, which is stereo, has a listed time of (3:59) and an actual time of (4:00). I only post this info because the 5 current database CDs for this song show times of either (4:14), (4:15) or (4:16).

Doing what I can here to help solve this mystery... My research indicates that Lobo's "How Can I Tell Her" first surfaced on his Calumet LP in 1973 on the Big Tree record label. If anyone has this vinyl album who can report the LP run time, it would be much appreciated. At first glance, it would appear the 45 is either an early fade or a short edit/version of the the LP (but of course this is why we investigate because my first impressions have been wrong before!).

My commercial copy of this 45 runs (4:07) and has the matrix number J731-S delta 91728 and it is just an early fade of the LP which runs (4:16).

Pat, my deadwax simply states "1731S", with no other matrix information present, so there were clearly two different commercial 45 pressings for this song.

Jim, do you know if your 45 copy is an early fade of the LP length?

Todd, I don't, but I will be shooting out 45 dubs of both this 45, as well as several other current version "open issues", to our distinguished Moderator, hopefully sometime this week, so I'm confident we will soon be getting to the bottom of all of these pending cases. And thanks to you, sir, for your recent tireless efforts in reviewing those six Simon & Garfunkel 45s against their LP/CD counterparts. Your findings were much appreciated, my friend!

Glad I could help, Jim! And thanks for shooting me the mp3s of your vinyl 45s so that I could do the comparisons.

my commercial 45 issued as big tree 16004 states the run
time as 3:59 and does indeed run that length and is just an early fade of the full length cd/lp version running 4:16 |
