Middle of the Road had 5 Top 40 hits in the UK. Chirpy being their first hit and only #1. The follow up "Tweedle Dee, Tweedle Dum" made it to #2.

Mac & Katie Kissoon had 3 Top 40 UK hits. Their version of Chirpy only made it to #41 in the UK though. Katie is still doing a lot of backing vocal work to this day.

I have all of Middle Of The Roads hits and Mac & Katies too for that matter.

The Mac and Katie Kissoon ABC label 45 sure sounds like a needledrop....

And Middle of the Road's version was an RCA single and album in the US.

I have a stereo version of "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" on a Dutch import CD called The Very Best of Mac & Katie Kissoon (BR Music BX 412-2) and it runs 2:43. Like David Clark pointed out earlier, the intro is shorter and runs faster than the mono 45. But I've also noticed that the stereo mix contains added reverb throughout the recording, while the 45 is more "dry" sounding.

So I'm wondering if this stereo mix first appeared on a parent Mac and Katie Kissoon LP? If so, then I would submit that the lone database CD appearance of this song should contain the comment: "long 45 version" (or something to that effect).
