My commercial and promo 45s for this (all mono) have both a listed and actual time of (2:45). It appears that its only mono CD appearance (on "Hitsville U.S.A.") is the only place which features the correct 45 length. All its stereo CD appearances, which run between (2:37) and (2:39), may in fact be the "LP length." Can anyone confirm the LP length?

On the "2 All Time Great Classic Albums" release of "My Cherie Amour" and "Signed, Sealed And Delivered" (Tamla TCD08006TD), the stereo LP length runs 2:41. Dan

I just timed the original vinyl LP and the running time on that LP is (2:38) not (2:46) as stated on the record label.

I notice the database shows the The Complete Motown Singles Vol. 10: 1970 (Box Set) as having a "first 45 pressing" and a "second 45 pressing" of Stevie Wonder's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours". I asked Jim about this because the database had previously not mentioned anything about two different pressings. In a nutshell, he informed me that Motown founder Berry Gordy would sometimes remix and reissue a 45 shortly after a first 45 was released to achieve improved sound on AM radio and that these "new and improved" remixed versions seemingly always became the "definitive" hit mix.
Jim says both of his commercial 45 pressings have a run time of 2:45, which means the first pressing on the Complete Motown Singles box set runs :12 short. Edited by Todd Ireland |

In Jim's first post on this thread, he says the running time is (2:45) exactly as stated on the 45 and now Todd reports that Jim says the 45 runs (2:48) so what is the true 45 length of this song?

Pat:
I re-checked Jim's e-mail and he does indeed report the commercial run time pressings of "Signed, Sealed, Delivered I'm Yours" to be 2:45. Sorry for the typo. I've also corrected the time in my previous post. |

Listening again to the Complete Motown Singles 1970 box set, I noticed that the un-labeled version of "Signed, Sealed, Delivered..." runs 2:32 and has a significantly different mix from what I'm used to hearing from the Hitsville box set. This mix has the horn section brought forward in the mix.
The "Alternate Mix" on TCMS 1970 matches what's on Hitsville and runs 2:46. As far as I know, this is the actual 45 version that was released and isn't really an "alternate mix." Did anyone ever come across the shorter mix on a 45? As a side note, Stevie has several other "Alternate Mixes" represented across the various volumes of the box set, as well as some labeled "second pressing" and "promo version." Is it mentioned in the liner notes that the "alternate mixes" were actually pressed on 45s, or were these supposed to be things found in the vaults and included as previously unreleased bonus mixes? |
