I was living near the Washington D.C. area at the time Nena's "99 Luftballons" was a major hit and I remember late in the song's chart run how pretty much every local station played the custom-edited combined German/English version. |

I actually remember all of the edit points of the German/English custom
edit (both z100 and WPLJ as well as others played it in NY) I will try to create it sometime this week and can pass it on to anyone interested. |

Eriewjg.... Will send when I complete.
Does anyone know what the best sources are for both the English and German versions? I remember that the English version on the Club Epic disc was cut very low but I may be wrong. Jeff |

So I am having lots of problems creating the German and English mixed version that dominated the New York airwaves (and many other markets as well) in the 80s. I am using the German version from the Like Omigod Box Set and the English version from The Big 80s, both issued by Rhino. The problem that I am having is that the mastering and EQs seems to be completely different, so there is a difference in the sound of the mix when you hear the German part of the songs and when you hear the English part. I am no audiophile but even I can hear the difference.
Can any of the expert editors suggest how I can get these two different sources to sound close enough so I can edit them together (something tells me that this is easier asked than done)? |
