although not in the db this top 40 hit needs to discussed.....the commercial 45 has 2 version of the song "live my life".....one side contains "the mix" and has a stated run time of 3:33....the other side contains the "soul remix" running 4:01......whitburns books state that the 45 runs 3:33 which would be the side with "the mix" on it......but.....the matrix number is higher on that side........"the mix" side has a matrix number of st-vr-53239-sp while the "soul remix" side has st-v-53238-sp.....this being the fact, the "soul remix" should be considered the A-side.............does anyone remember this song and could they shed some light here.....thx

For what it's worth, we played the 3:33 version at the radio station where I worked at that time.

Ed, I know of many instances where the "higher" matrix # was indeed the "A" side, although I would agree that most times the lower matrix # is the "A" side. Just to confirm this, my 1988 promo CD single (PRCD 2139) shows the tracks on it as follows (there were no listed times.)
1-The Mix (actual time 3:33) 2-Soul Remix (actual time 4:10) 3-12" Klub Remix (actual time 7:34) 4-12" Soul Remix (actual time 7:23) |

So is it safe to assume the 3:33 version on the Rock of the 80s Volume 10 compilation by Priority Records is "The Mix"?

The parent album for this song was the Hiding Out motion picture soundtrack.
Discogs shows that soundtrack to contain a version running 4:32, so I assume the LP version is different, or at least longer, than either of the 45 versions? Does anyone know if the soundtrack version can be edited or faded to match either of the 45 versions? |

I'm 99% certain it can't be edited from the album
version (I don't have the album on me right now-but I did try it in the past) |
