the cassingle issued as atco 98881 contains a non-described version, but which is an edit of the full 4:22 cd version and runs 3:46...this should be noted in the db....

I just noticed something different about my copy of AC/DC's The Razors Edge CD... According to the database, "Moneytalks" runs 4:12 on both CD pressings of this album and contains an "LP version" comment. However, the song runs 3:45 on my copy, which closely mirrors the commercial single run time. The song ends cold, so it's clearly an edit and not an early fade. Thus, it looks like "Moneytalks" on my pressing of The Razor's Edge is the single version (though I don't have a commercial single copy to verify for 100% certain).
I purchased my copy brand new about a year or two ago from an independent seller on Amazon. The catalog number printed on the CD case spine is Atco A2-91413. The matrix number stamped along the CD hub is: 3 91413-2 RE-1 SRC-02 and then contains "M4537" in a different font. The back of the CD case states: "Manufactured by Columbia House Under License". So all said, I wonder why my CD pressing contains what appears to be the 45 version of "Moneytalks" as opposed to the LP version? |

Columbia House is a record club issue is it not? Record club issues can be quite different from the commercial releases as you have discovered.

Actually, Pat, until now I've honestly never seen a case where a record club issue of a particular CD release was different than its retail counterpart... At least not in a case like this where a 45 version was substituted for the LP version. I was always under the impression that record clubs receive exact copies of the same album masters used for retail pressings but I could be wrong.

My (non-record club) copy of 'The Razors Edge' has the 3:45 "Moneytalks".
I've never heard a longer version; could anybody check their copy and report what is different and edited? Andy |

Todd and Andy, FYI, my 1991 "Moneytalks" promo CD single (PRCD 3661-2) also contains just the one, shorter, non-described, listed & actual (3:45) version on it. At this moment, it appears to me that the (4:12) version in the database could actually be the rarity. Also, my personal buying experiences to date exactly mirror Todd's, in that, AFAIK, all of the "record club" versions of CDs I own seem to exactly mirror the content from the official label CD releases. Since Pat has seemingly had different experiences than both Todd and I have, perhaps he'd be able to give us an example or two of such differences, to demonstrate his point, whenever time allows. I'm very interested in receiving additional details on any documented "record club/official label" CD content variations.

No I can't give you any examples of record club issues being different than commercial issues of cd's because I simply do not own any record club issue cd's so I could be wrong in my judgement of their being differences between the two.
And to correct the database, I do not know where the time of (4:12) comes from as I pulled out my Atco 91413 cd and the track "Moneytalks" runs (3:45). |
