Yesterday, I bought 9 years worth of the CD series "Promo Only Mainstream Radio", and it turns out that the seller is someone who contributes to this board a lot, and also lives pretty near me in L.A. Even though we had communicated about the Promo Only CDs shortly before I decided to bid on them, it was until afterwards that he recognized either my name or moniker EdisonLite from this board. It's Eric A, BTW. And we plan to meet up sometime. I've also met with Brian Weber a couple times, who lives in LA.

So I decided to start this post - whoever reads this, can you tell us what city/town you live in? Maybe there are 2 people that live near each other that might end up meeting up.

Eric mentioned that there was a similar post once before. I kind of recall it, but we have a lot of new members now, so I thought it's worth starting a new post here.

When I found out that the seller of these Promo Only Mainstream Radio CDs (which contain quite a few radio edits/mixes) was someone from this board, it made total sense because the people on this board are so focused on getting single versions :)

I think most of you know I live in Milwaukee. The only
member of the board I've actually met in person is Ron (aka
crapfromthepast), although I've spoken with a few of you
over the phone too.

I think it'd be cool to set up a Zoom meeting some time so
we could all meet face-to-face, at least virtually
speaking.

I live in the northern Chicago suburbs, although I grew
up in the NYC area. My wife keeps telling me "you need
to organize a get-together with all those guys." I'm
not sure how practical it would be, but it would be fun.

I live in the suburbs north of Dallas. As far as the people who post regularly, I had the privilege of meeting Brian W. for lunch in Burbank a couple years ago, and I used to visit the late jimct in Connecticut about once every year or two. I also met prisdeej here in Dallas for lunch when he was here for a short visit. Steve Sharp hasn't been on the board in several years, but I met him a few months ago at a DJ convention in Las Vegas. A handful of others are Facebook friends. Always nice to put faces with the names!

I live in Upstate New York right near Albany. I'm actually jealous you got all those promo CD's before I could get my hands on them!

And I joined this board (and read it from afar) because I am so OCD about 45-single versions. My zealous pursuit of buying top 40 singles will probably leave me broke, but I intend to have every last one even if it takes a lifetime.

I do find it amazing that I have to order overseas single versions or comps that have the top 40 hits I need simply because they are unavailable here in the US. It seems the overseas people do a much better job of collecting our top 40 singles then we do!

Like you, I’m also in the northern suburbs of Chicago (and I was born in
NYC, but not raised there).

I'm not allowed to divulge such information. They tend to discourage that kind of behavior when you're in the witness protection program. ;)

Just for fun, I'd entertained the thought of having a T40MOCD Summer Picnic in the Twin Cities a time or two. Highlights would include a group tour of Prince's Paisley Park in Chanhassen, a trip to the Maul Of America in Bloomington ("see over there? That's where the Sam Goody store used to be!"), plus a surprise visit to the KFAI studios while Ron is in the middle of his Friday night Crap From The Past broadcast. (Ron: it's a surprise, so please ignore the previous sentence.)

Unfortunately, the vinyl Frisbee golf event didn't make the final cut, since I'm not sure if I have a sufficient quantity of junker 45s anymore. Has anyone tried substituting CDs?

If this were to transpire somewhere, it would be similar to the comment any of us who've ever been in radio invariably hear: you don't look at all like you sound (or - in this group's case - write.) I'm not sure I could handle such a vast assemblage of weirdness in one place. ;)

Great thread!   I live in Providence, Rhode Island which is one hour south of Boston. I've been an active member for 6 years but I read more than post. As Aaronk mentioned we met when I was
visiting Dallas last summer. This is truly my favorite forum to visit, and I check it several times a day.

I live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
Previously, I've lived in Vista,
California, Erie, Pennsylvania, and
Rensselaer, New York (5 minutes outside of
Albany), but somehow never connected with
any of you in person.

The fact that I don't drive and have to
rely on others is a big factor, especially
considering my wife is disabled and is
uncomfortable with meeting new people, let
alone trying to make it in to places to
meet new people. Being broke is the other
big factor... I make less money than my
bills cost me... but, I certainly would
love to meet any of you that my path might
cross. John, we still get up to Erie once
or twice a year, so I'm still crossing my
fingers.

edtop40 hasn't posted since Oct. 2017 or even visited since
April of this year. Hope he is well and just sidetracked.

I've been doing some Zoom meetings recently with a private
FB group. Yesterday, I had a video meeting with a chap in
Scotland and a gal from my home state of Minnesota.

I still think we could set something like that up for this
group.

As EdisonLite mentioned, I'm based in LA, with roots in NY (the Catskills originally and later NYC). Love the
idea of a live meetup - in person or virtually.

Fun to run into a fellow board member on eBay! Regarding that Promo Only collection, my subscription has lapsed a
couple times over the past decades, so when I spotted a big collection on eBay, I decided to buy the lot, keep the
discs I needed, and unload the duplicates. I'd actually considered asking this group if anyone wanted to go in
with me and split up the lot, but wasn't sure if it was appropriate for the board -- but fortunately, seems the
friends from the board found me. :)

,...finally back from travel...

I'm in Minneapolis, and have had Paul H sit in on the radio show. Let me know if you're passing through Minnesota.

I grew up in NYC, and went to school in Rochester, NY and Tucson, AZ.

(Unrelated: Have you had good luck selling large collections on eBay? I'd considering selling off my Hot Hits, Spotlight On Hits, and The A-List discs.)

You know you're really older when you think that younger singer Jesse McCartney's related in anyway to former Beatle Paul McCartney.

Ah, fairly close to me. I pass Whittier every time I go to
Disneyland. I keep meaning to try out The Original Pancake
House and their oven-baked Apple Pancake, but I never get
around to it. I like the King Arthur Antique Mall there,
but I haven't been in a couple years.

Sounds like we have critical mass in LA, enough for a
local meetup?

Related note for Angelenos: this weekend is Freakbeat
Records' semiannual sale in Sherman Oaks. It's worth
braving the crowds...I've been known to buy crates
worth during these weekends.

Although most here probably don't know me, I thought I'd answer too.
I'm only an occasional poster but a daily reader. I'm in Knoxville, TN,
not originally though. I was born in NY and raised in FL.

I feel like the odd one out here, but I'm in Palmerston North, New Zealand (about two hours drive north of the capital, Wellington).

It's pretty unlikely that I'll get to meet any of you (let alone attend any group picnics!), but if anybody is visiting New Zealand, I'd be more than happy to catch up.

Facebook has been a great way of putting names to faces though, as I have had the pleasure of "meeting" a few of you on there.

also a bit of a drive north from Wellington, New

I’m from Central Wisconsin, about 3 hours from Minneapolis and 2
hours from Milwaukee. Basically in the middle of nowhere, certainly as
it pertains to music stores. (Good thing there’s online shopping now!)

The only person from this board I may have seen/met is Paul Haney,
but I didn’t know it at the time. I stopped in to Record Research to buy
one of the Top 100 Pop books (I’ve had 4-5 editions over the years)
and I think Paul was having a discussion with another guy (not Joel).
Might have been for the 2009 12th edition, although I’ve been to RR at
least 4 times over the years.

I continue to read the board frequently, but only feel the need to post
when I can add to a discussion. I, too, am all about single versions, so
I’m very thankful for the many discoveries that people have brought to
my attention through this site.

Jon O.
