i need the members opinion on this one.........the song is listed as being done with slick rick........BUT......the first track on both cd single issued as def jam/ral 575047 and the cassingle issued as def jam/ral 575046 have the lp version WITHOUT slick rick as the first track.......the second track on both contains the LP version with slick rick.....the question is why wouldn't the lp version WITHOUT slick rick be considered the true single version since it was the first track.........anyone???

Good point, Ed. Also, there's no comments next to the song in the database; however, two CDs show a run time of (4:40), while the other disc shows (4:12). I'm guessing the (4:12) version would be the lead track from the CD single. Can you confirm, Ed? My single is in Michigan.

no the lead track on the cassingle and cd single run 4:40 and are both the lp version.....i can't give you any direction on that 4:12 except maybe it's a radio edit from a promo cd single.........just a guess...

Ed:
Perhaps the version with Rick Slick was the one that received the lion's share of the airplay and that's why this version was listed on the charts?

no, i believe the reason it's listed on the charts that way is because it's listed that way on the front on the cd single and cassingle as being with slick rick.......but in actuality the first track is WITHOUT slick rick........kind of the same way the song "hard to say i'm sorry" is by az yet.........the cd single states that it's with peter cetera, but the first track on that cd single is NOT with him.........so, in my opinion, if the cd single, 45 or cassingle states it's with someone on the front and it HAS that someone as the first track, then yes, that should be the single version.........but if it's not that important to have the guest artist on the first track, it shouldn't be that important to us as top 40 collector's.....just a thought.....

Depends on what you're collecting, as we all have different reasons for collecting the mixes and edits we collect. Personally, Slick Rick is one of my favorite rappers from back in the day, so I bought the single just because he was on it...even though the song isn't that great.

If the leadoff track on both cassette single and CD single is the LP version without Slick Rick, then that is what I would consider to be the single version.

I think the database should have the same type of notations for Montell Jordan's "I Like" as Pat made with the Az Yet "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" situation. In other words, each CD listing containing "I Like" that runs 4:40 should specifically note: (LP and 45 version with Slick Rick) or (45 version without Slick Rick). It might also be helpful to post general comments in the database regarding the track listing of the CD and cassette singles.
