The database shows all CD appearances of Daddy Dewdrop's "Chick-a-Boom (Don't Ya Jes' Love It)" with run times of 2:48-2:50. Ed recently e-mailed me an mp3 of his 45, which actually clocks in longer at 2:55. Does anybody have a copy of the original LP that "Chick-a-Boom" first appeared (assuming there was one) and, if so, what is the run time on it? I'm curious to know if the LP length is shorter than the 45 length, which could help explain why the song consistently runs :05-:07 shorter on CD than it does on 45.

Ok, I've just now confirmed that Daddy Dewdrop released a self-titled LP in 1971 on the Sunflower label (catalog #SNF-5006), which presumably has "Chick-a-Boom..." on it. Anyone have it who can report on the song's run time?

I have just timed both my album and single versions of "Chick-A-Boom" with the album fading out to 2:50 and the single fading out to 2:55, so there is a 5 second difference between the fadeouts, otherwise they are identical.
BTW, both the album and single list an incorrect time of 2:40.

Outstanding, Paul! Thanks for confirming the 45 and LP run times. I like that you also mentioned the printed LP time. Sometime in the future, I'd like to expand my research to uncover significant discrepencies between actual and printed LP times.

There must have been two different commercial 45 pressings of Daddy Dewdrop's "Chick-a-Boom (Don't Ya Jes' Love It)" because Jim reports his copy has an actual run time of 2:52, not 2:40 as stated on the record label.

On the charts 50 years ago.
Any thoughts on if the mono 45 is a fold-down or
dedicated mix? Only mono in the database is labeled
(rerecording).

I think if you fold it and add some compression it should
match the 45. The 45 ends on the boom at 2:52.
Your mileage may vary but that's what I did.

Sounds like a fold-down to my ears.
