We've talked previously about single versions of Eagles songs, but a couple that didn't get mentioned in that thread were their first two hits: "Take It Easy" and "Witchy Woman". So, my usual question--can the 45s of these two songs be extracted from the LP?

hey doug.....i have the first 4 top 40 songs on cd in their 45 version....paul edwards edited the songs -----take it easy, witchy woman, peaceful easy feeling & already gone-----for me awhile ago and they are flawless......do you need mp3 copies??? ------------- edtop40 |

I've also recently replicated the 45 version of "One of These Nights" from the LP version on CD, so I'll be sending it your way on the upcoming CD-R I'm making for you. Sometime in the future, I'd like to work on a homemade 45 version of "Take It to the Limit", which I understand is the most complicated Eagles 45 version to replicate. |

How do both "Take It Easy" & "Peaceful Easy Feeling" differ in regards to single/LP versions??

From the dub that Ed sent me, "Take It Easy" has one edit at around the (2:54) mark--one of the instrumental bars is removed (it's about a seven or eight second edit). And nice work on the edits, T.I.
I'm not sure there is a difference in "Peaceful Easy Feeling" (and Pat's database indicates as such). ------------- Doug --------------- All of the good signatures have been taken. |

Ugh, the Take It To The Limit 45 edit is tough to pull off successfully using commercially available CDs (I used the DCC Greatest Hits). The problem is that one of the big edits toward the end spans a good length of the fadeout, so that the ending point is at a much lower volume. So you have to jack up the volume at the ending point to get the levels to match. Then the rest of the fade has to be adjusted. I did a lot of work with levels and EQ to get it to match, but it still sounds a little wonky to me; perhaps a casual listener wouldn't notice. If there was a CD version out there with a longer fadeout, that would sure help. |

The actual running time of "Already Gone" is (3:43) not (3:39) as stated on the record label and in my opinion is just an early fade of the LP equivalent. ------------- Top 40 Music On Compact Disc Moderator |

Don't forget another difference between the 45 versions and LP
versions of "Take It Easy" and "Witchy Woman." Both original 45s were in mono, and, in my opinion, each was mixed a bit differently from their album versions. "Take It Easy" sounds as though there is no (or certainly less) reverb on the lead vocal, and the backing vocals sound more up in the mix. On "Witchy Woman," it seems to me that the bass has been pushed up in the mix. Oddly, I have the promo 45 for "Witchy Woman" which features both the mono and stereo mixes. And, "Take It Easy" is worth finding on 45, because the flip, "Get You In The Mood," has yet to find official release on CD. |

I think it's a different mix - the vocals seem louder to me, for one thing, and the guitars are mixed differently since that section in the middle with two guitars playing at once sounds completely different than the LP, but it's the same performance. |

Yes, I noticed that too, Paul, when I picked up a copy of the "Take It Easy" 45 two summers ago! I'm a huge longtime Eagles fan and I had never before seen or heard of the B-side "Get You in the Mood". I don't think it's ever appeared anywhere else - period - other than the 45. |

I listened to my 45 yesterday, and it really does seem like a different mix...the background vocals are about 9:00 and 3:00 for each part of the 3 part harmony, and are more upfont, as is the lead. The guitars are certainly mixed different, since the pedal-steel sounding electric is louder all the way through. |
