Dug out my commercial 45, Atlantic 7-89304, printed 3:54, actual 3:55, 113.6 BPM throughout. Same as the album version, to the best of my knowledge.

It does have a very long tail on the fade, and there are a few CDs out there that hasten the fadeout near the end of the tail, including Time-Life's 2-CD Rock Dreams (1993), JCI's Only Rock 'N Roll #1 Radio Hits 1985-1989 (1994; uses same analog transfer as Rock Dreams and sounds extremely similar to that disc), and The A-List (1994; crude, practically linear fadeout - homemade at TM Century?)

I'd vote to avoid the above discs for this track, and seek out one with a time close to 3:53.

Afterthought: I don't think there was a promo 45 with an early fade on it. Anyone else remember more clearly than I do?

Ron, my http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh240/YahShure/LouGramm-MidnightBlueDJ.jpg - DJ 45 matches your commercial 45: listed (3:54) and actual (3:55).
