my commercial 45 of bruce hornsby & the range song "mandolin rain" issued as rca 5087 does not state a version but lists a run time as 4:41 and is an edit of the full length 5:17 cd/lp version......i found the proper 45 version on the uk import cd single with a catalog number of pd49770......i don't know if it's an edit that is easily re-created from the full length cd version.....this 45 run time info s/b added to the db...

I re-created the edit quite a while ago, and it's pretty easy from what I remember.

You can't simply edit it, because it's a remix by Eddie King.

Among other subtle differences, it has more reverb on the lead vox & is faster pitched than the LP mix.

Yeah, I just checked, and I have no such edit. I must've been thinking of the promo version for "The Way It Is," which is just an early fade. Sorry for the false alarm.

Thanks, Ed, for posting the catalog info for the UK CD single. It allowed me to track down a copy which arrived today. Nice to hear the remix without any vinyl noise! Now, is anyone aware of an import source on CD for the remix of Every Little Kiss?

It doesn't exist. I've been searching for it, too. I'd been hoping that Hornsby's "Greatest Radio Hits" CD (his only compilation) would hold true to its title and include the version played on the radio, but it doesn't obviously, it's just the album version. The best thing out there is the vinyl cleaning that MMathews (of this board) made - from my copy of the 45.

There also appears to be another promo 7" (RCA ‎– 5087-7-
RAA) for Mandolin Rain with a track duration of 4:15. I
don't have this one so I'm not sure if it's mis-timed or
a different version/edit.

Hi Rick, are you talking about "Mandolin
Rain" or "Every Little Kiss" ?

I wonder if anyone has a copy of this 4:15 version and can
share actual run times and any other info.

The label of that promo 45 has a listed running time of 4:15 and below that it says, "Intro: 28". If you combine both times, you'd get a total running
time of about 4:43, which is about how long the 45 version runs. Is it possible that the running time on it actually is the same as the commercial 45
single version, and that 4:15 is just how long the song runs after the intro?

Probably one of those listed vs. actual run-time instances.

On one of the NOW Music CD's Mandolin Rain clocks in at
3:30, but just an early fade. Still caught my eye when I
first saw the time on the CD.
