Wasn't there a shorter edit around too? I seem to recall playing a version that was less than 4 min (maybe 3:50 or so).

The http://i257.photobucket.com/albums/hh240/YahShure/CollectiveSoul-Shine.jpg - commercial 45 had the radio edit. Listed time is (3:55) although I haven't timed it.

There's a version on Atlantic's Year In Review - 1994 that runs 3:57 (including outro silence).

The versions on Hot Hits Vol. 27 and Top Hits RH25 are both the "Remix Edit" from the promo CD single.

I have a 1-track promo with the 3:55 version. I will supply details soon.

My 1-track promo is PRCD 5655. There is a sticker on the front that says "3:55 EDIT / GUITAR SOLO DELETED." The back insert and disc are labeled "Radio Edit" with a printed time of 3:55. I'm not sure if this is an edit of the remix or the LP version. I'll have to track down the "45 version" to be sure.

Are there any obvious mix differences between the remix and LP versions? I have only the promo CD with the remixes and while I've never done a direct comparison, I can't hear any difference compared to the LP version.

To 995wlol:

There are differences in the mixes; most notable is an additional "yeah" in the pre-chorus guitar break on the LP mix (I know, kinda hard to describe on a messageboard).

aaron was kind enough to forward me a copy of the 3:55 radio edit version and it is the same mix as the remix/edit version from my promo cd single just shorter...

Thanks to Ed, I was able to hear the "Remix" versions from his promo CD. As Ed has noted, this is the same mix that is found on the shorter 3:55 edit.

In addition to the aforementioned promo CDs (5562 and 5655), there was one other promo issued for this song:

PRCD 5540
1. Edit (4:39)
2. Album Version (5:05)

I have the "Edit" on a TM Century GoldDisc, and this is the only version our station ever played. After comparing the Edit with the Remix Edit, I'm surprised at how muddy and dull the Remix Edit sounds. And, as Andy notes above, there are mix differences. Some of the instruments and vocals have been moved around a tad, either from left to right or brought forward in the mix; however, there is nothing too drastically different.

These minor mix differences kinda falls under the "why bother?" category, doesn't it?

Todd, that's pretty much my feeling, especially since, in my opinion, they managed to make the song sound worse by remixing it.
