So as not to highjack another thread..
How many different versions of this song are there? Which one(s) were serviced by the label, and how many were created by various radio people, and which one of them would be considered the "hit" version?

Steve: Found a couple CD singles online for this song.
This one - http://www.discogs.com/release/1270266 - Rockstar seems to have the most amount of edits.

Great find - with the video too! Thank you John. I have never bought from discog, but I believe I bought this, today. Not sure what the procedure is, I think I'm waiting for the seller to contact me about payment.
If I bought it, when I get it, I'll go over the differences.

Seller emailed me... he sold it a couple weeks ago, but forgot to remove it from his inventory. :(

Sorry to hear that, Steve. Has anyone seen a U.S. promo CD single release of "Rock Star"? Our local mainstream Top 40 station here in Pittsburgh played what I think is the "Cleanest Edit". It bleeped out words like "drugs" and "ass", which typically don't get censored on today's permissive radio airwaves.

I don't have a promo CD single, but I'm thinking there must have been one because WTSS Buffalo (an adult contemporary station) played the same edit.

Does anyone here have the promo cd single, with the three different edits that John linked?

The only US promo I've seen (but not heard) is a 1-track disc with no version specified. There must be more than one US promo, though, since several clean edits exist.

Steve:
Another option might be http://www.mattscdsingles.com/ - Matt's CD Singles . Even though he doesn't list "Rock Star", he might be able to acquire it for you.

Looks like Matt's won't be able to get this for me, either.
"Sorry I have tried to track down a copy without any luck in the last week. You may have better luck elsewhere, it is something we will get in but it may take 6 months or more before it appears on the website.
Thought it best to let you know as you may find one elsewhere in the meantime.
Thanks for the email though and good luck obtaing this promo CD.
All the best,"

Yes there is a US promo cd single for Rockstar and it is Roadrunner Records 10195. The two tracks are simply titled "Version 1" which is the LP version and "version 2" which drops out several offensive words such as "drugs" and "ass".

Pat:
Thanks for clarifying that the 'Version 2' edit is indeed the cleanest. Turns out I had it on a GoldDisc from what was then Jones TM in 2007.
