I'm afraid I only have Pat Downey's 8th edition of his book, so I don't
know if there has been any update since then, but I was hoping to
find out if the single version of "Both Sides Now" has appeared on
CD yet. I'd also like to know the difference(s) between the LP
versions Pat lists and the 45 version. I have a copy of the original 45
and an Elektra Spun Gold re-issue, but I think both copies were used
to sand somebody's cement patio, so it's hard to tell much, other
than my original 45 is in stereo. Any help would be appreciated, and
keep up the good work, everyone!

Hi Paul! Welcome to the chat board. You're not the only one with an 8th Edition. That's what my copy of the book is, too. I had to laugh at your comment about sanding a cement patio. It's just one of the many frustrating things that record companies do when they issue CDs, as you can probably tell by the many postings on this board. Your contributions are welcomed and appreciated.

Paul what took you so long getting over here? Well there are two versions of "Both Sides Now" floating around, one appears on the "Wildflowers" vinyl LP and cd and this is also the 45 version. The other version appears on the "Colors Of The Day/Best Of" LP and cd. You can tell the difference as Judy sings the line "from give and take" at 2:40 on the Best Of version while on the Wildflowers version she sings "from win and lose".

Thanks! I just checked my version on Forever-An Anthology and it
fits the bill. Another one off my list.

I found the sanding reference funny,too..Funny, as
wlel, but I enjoy both versions (the "give and take" is
the remake now more often heard on radio stations to my
ears, while "win or lose' is on the original album
"Wildflowers" and all singles, i believe..

You know you're really older when you think that younger singer Jesse McCartney's related in anyway to former Beatle Paul McCartney.

And that later version ("from give and take") has
appeared on at least a few other albums as
mentioned in another thread on the song, "Freedom
Rock" Disc 2 (reported by SmokinTom Gary). Still
wondering which version turned up in the reissue on
the single, esp.as it's Elektra Spun Gold, and the
Doors's "Light My Fire" was reissued with a
different, similar edit to the iconic original one
(taking four minutes out but that original "Light
My Fire" also had a few more edits)..I have the
Spun Gold record of "Both Sides Now"/"Amazing
Grace" but my 45 record colleciton is so HUGE..
