According to the database, "This Used to Be My Playground" was never issued on a parent LP, so there is no LP version - only the single version documented above. Now, a while back, Brian W. noted on the very informative and detailed http://www.top40musiconcd.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=84&KW=Madonna - Madonna - The 45 Versions on CD thread that the "long version" of "Playground" appearing on the commercial single release runs 6:06. Does anyone recall ever hearing (or playing) this longer version on Top 40 radio?

I've never heard the longer version, and it's unlikely that radio would opt for something that long, especially on a ballad.

"This Used to Be My Playground" was issued on an album in 1992, the year it was a hit: Barcelona Gold (Warner Bros. 26974-2), a compilation relating to the Summer Olympics of that year. It wasn't really a parent album, but plenty of hit singles had no parent albums.
Oddly, the version on that CD is neither of these versions, as it is shorter still (no listed time, but 4:42 on my CD player). Thus it's one of those cases where the "album version" is shorter than the single version, like "Let the Music Play" by Shannon or "Sometimes a Fantasy" by Billy Joel.

Another instance of that is Madonna's "You Must Love Me". :)
More Madonna-related useless trivia:
The original recording of "This Used To Be My Playground" runs nearly 7 minutes and has never been released commercially.
There are only two of the three recorded verses used in the single and LP versions. These were rearranged via a few (poorly executed) edits so that the third verse appears in place of the second. These versions are edited so that the final choruses come directly after the middle instrumental.
The Long Version features the original second verse in its rightful spot.
While The Long Version is indeed the longest released vocal version of the song, both the Barcelona Gold LP Version and The Long Version feature the same ending. The Single Version has a third repeat of the final chorus with different lyrics that was cut from the other released versions.
The version of TUTBMP heard over the credits of the film A League Of Their Own is the full recording featuring the same vocal, but is a demo mix. This fuller arrangement has all three verses, all three final chorus rounds heard on the Single Version PLUS a fourth with more alternate lyrics.
The Instrumental featured on the US promo and international maxi single releases for TUTBMP is of the full demo mix and not an exact instrumental of the final Single Version/Long Version/LP Version mix.
Finally, one more mix variation, the video version is the single version faded up late so that is plays only the second half of the intro music.
Phew!

here's a scan of the B-side of the cassingle, which clearly states that there IS a longer version of the song somewhere...

It's frightening that I still remember --vividly-- buying that cassette single! Thanks again for sharing these scans. :)

Right... I mentioned that "The Long Version" from the single in my post (albeit loosely as it had been discussed earlier in this thread). Perhaps references to the commercial version needed quotes. "The Long Version" is also on the US promo CD and international singles and maxi singles.
What remains unreleased is the full 7-minute recording.
I mentioned this because the end choruses on "The Long Version" are edited to only two, the same two heard on the shorter version found on Barcelona Gold, making the Single Version (also found on the Something To Remember compilation) the only released version to have three choruses on the end, all with alternate lyrics.
I then went on to say there is a fourth chorus not present on any commercially released version, heard only on the A League Of Their Own film credits (along with the three heard on the Single Version). This is the urneleased long version I refered to and is the full demo recording.
The Instrumental of this earlier mix (not performance) appears on the US promo and international maxi singles.
