It missed the top 40, but if anyone is interested, the 45 version of Queen's "I Want To Break Free" is an edit of the 12 inch version. That extended version appears on the 1991 remaster of "The Works" CD (Hollywood HR-61233-2); using editing software you can recreate the 45 from the version on this CD.

Based on https://www.discogs.com/Queen-I-Want-To-Break-Free/release/3385693 - this Discogs entry I would guess the flip side of the radio promo chopped off the faded in chords at the beginning.

In trying to create my own "short DJ edit," I notice the tiniest bit of overlap of the reverb from the chords trails in to the rhythm synths that start at :19.

If the promo single DOESN'T have that overlap (starts clean), that would mean the short radio edit cannot be created from the single version.
