The 45 version of "Control" actually turns up on a Time-Life CD: Gold And Platinum Vol. 5 (1997, and mastered by the great Dennis Drake, no less!) Since this is a relatively uncommon, and Control is a relatively common CD in comparison (which I just found for $1), I thought I'd post instructions on how to create the 45, based on the timings on Control.
Remove 0:00.0-0:40.5 of the LP version.
Edit on the downbeat at 0:40.5.
Keep 0:40.5-1:46.9 of the LP version.
Edit on the snare at 1:46.9.
Remove the 16 beats from 1:46.9-1:54.9.
Keep 1:54.9-3:39.5 of the LP version.
Edit to remove the word "woo".
Remove 3:39.5-5:19.2 of the LP version.
Edit at the scream.
Keep 5:19.2-5:54.1 (end) of the LP version.
Your mixdown will have edits at 1:06.5 and 2:51.0 and will run 3:26.0.
The LP and 45 versions run at essentially the same speed, at about 120.3 or 120.4 BPM.

Crapfromthepast, I'm not sure the 45 version can exactly be recreated from the LP version. To my ears, it sounds like that first note is different on the 45, like there's an extra "something," some extra sound effect, that is not on that note on LP version. Listen carefully... that first burst of sound isn't quite the same.

I thought I did for years, too, but it's slightly different than the 45 version. It has that little "buzz" before the big crescendo at the beginning. The US single just started with that crescendo.

I think you mentioned this in another post; however, I cannot hear any differences on the 45 copy I have. I can send my dub for your evaluation if you'd like.

I compared the two, and any differences I hear I attribute to a slightly different EQ - my 45 is mixed a little brighter than the Control CD.

I just came across a copy of Gold And Platinum Vol. 5. Upon listening, it sure sounds to me like it was sourced from vinyl. It has an overall "scratchy" sound and I'd swear there are a few vinyl pops during the last few seconds of the song (listen at the 3:14 mark). Would anyone who owns this set agree?
Edit: I should have checked my original "Control" (the album) on CD first. The "pops" at the end are present on the LP version as well. Maybe "scratchyness" I thought I heard on the single version could just be different EQ.

On an unrelated note regarding Janet Jackson's "Control", I thought it might be worth pointing out for database consideration that the 4:35 version on promo 45 copies is billed as the "Edited Video Mix".

So was it confirmed that the version on the import is the 45 version? I ask
because I own this CD as well.

Brian said above that it wasn't the 45 version. According
to him... "I thought I did for years, too, but it's
slightly different than the 45 version. It has that little
"buzz" before the big crescendo at the beginning. The US
single just started with that crescendo."

There were two different commercial 12" vinyl single releases for Janet Jackson's "Control"... The first was the "Video Mix: Soundtrack To The Video Of Control" and had an actual run time of 6:00 (printed label time: 6:02). The second consisted of the "Extended Version" with an actual and printed run time of 7:33.
Happily, both versions appear on one domestic CD release. And because there were two separate commercial 12" single releases, I might in this instance respectfully suggest updating the associated database comments, where appropriate, as follows:
("Video Mix" 12" single version)
("Extended Version" 12" single version)
