I'm always working on a number of music projects at once, and Pat's database, as augmented by jimct's (and others') information is indispensible.

Here's my question: how do you decide what 45s to time and post on the Chat Board? I've been trying to figure out a pattern but I can't discern one (or is it just random)?

Inquiring minds want to know . . .

Thanks, jimct, for yours and others' postings on the Chat Board. I really enjoy the exchange of knowledge.

Dan

i usually just start reviewing a particular group or year and go from there......so basically, for me, it's just random....

Looks like Jim has got a few from mid-late 1974 posted here. :)

I noticed last year that Ed would attack a specific 80's year, and thought that made sense. (Thanks for the inspiration, Ed!) Also, I have my commercial 45s boxed by year, filed according to the Billoard "Pop Annual", so, while I have a certain box out, I try to finish it up. I started with 1970, for no particular reason, and have completed 70/71/72/73, and am currently on the #11 peaking hits for 1974. Then, to break up the monotony, I have 12 boxes of 45s, filed from A to Z, with all decades mixed in, of "45 versions not currently on CD", and I've just finished box #6 for those. I do these whenever I need a break from the 70s. Finally, I have about 95% of all Top 40 hits in the database on commercial 45s. My primary focus, for years now, has been non-Top-40 and regional hits, but now, with this great Board of Pat's, I'm trying to clean up my few remaining "holes", since I'm so close to having them all. So, when I happen to find some of these, in my record-shop travels, I will post the info, if needed, before they get filed. This way, I can "sprinkle in" some 50s/60s/80s posts along the way, while still keeping my primary focus on my 70's box-by-box research. And I appreciate the kind words, satchdr!

That right there is an amazing statement. It goes to show you HOW MANY 45 versions are not currently on CD. Am I guessing, Jim, out your collection, that would number 1200+ that aren't?
