Both my stock and promo 45s have a listed time of (3:25), but an actual time of (3:23), so all of the CD versions are either LP version or LP length. Back in 1976, it took me THREE tries to finally obtain a non-defective stock copy on this (deadwax AM-12138-S P3). The first 2 I bought (and still have) feature the song pressed at "Chipmunk speed" - same take, but these 2 45s wrap up in a blistering (3:08), and has a deadwax of (AM 12138-S P1). Hard to believe it got all the way into stores without A&M ever catching the goof - sounds like it's spinning at 52RPM! I'm sure some 1976 "Chipmunk mix" 45s are still out there, this being the holiday season and all....

My white label dj copy, matrix #12138-S S6 runs (3:23) not (3:25) as stated on the record label. Even the (3:23) 45 speed is much faster than the LP version.

Can the LP version be edited and sped to match the 45, or are there other differences as well?

And now--to answer my own question.
Jim sent me a dub of his 45. After listening, I grabbed my LP version from The Millenium Collection series. His 45 runs (3:26), my LP version runs (4:01).
Using WavePad, which requires one to enter a number above or below 100% to speed up or slow down (you can't just tell it to speed it up by 2.5%), I sped it up to 104% (which would assume a 4% increase in speed/pitch). That dropped the LP time to (3:51).
One edit needed to be made to match the 45 (it's not just a fade issue), and I found it to be a little tricky. With it already sped up, the edit I made was between the (2:34.91) mark and the (2:57.55) mark. While it may not be the precise exact point of edit, it was pretty doggone close (the more exact editors of this room could probably nail it down further). That got me down to (3:29), and there was about 7 seconds of dead time at the end of the CD track included in that, so chop some of that off and I think we're good.
Jim, thanks for shooting that dub to me.

While we're on the subject of "Mademoiselle"... The song also appears on Styx's Greatest Hits, Part 2 CD on A&M 540550, which is now out-of-print, but the database doesn't note this CD title anywhere. This disc also contains the band's Top 40 hit "Love at First Sight". Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of this CD so I can't pass along the actual run times.

I can help with this. "Mademoiselle" runs (3:59), "Love At First Sight" runs (4:33).
That CD also has "Sing For The Day" (which was the B-side to "Renegade") in its LP version (45 had a listed time of (3:39), LP runs (4:57)), and "Borrowed Time" (running (4:58)--I believe, but I'm not positive, that the 45 and LP were the same). Both songs just missed BILLBOARD's top 40.
Not sure how to edit "Sing For The Day" down.

The stock 45 of "Borrowed Time" is in fact the LP version, but there is a promo that snipped out the keyboard intro
(first 42-43 seconds) and starts with the guitar.
