the cassingle issued as ruffhouse/columbia 74197 contains the "radio edit" version of the song and runs 3:15.....the cassingle starts with a vinyl scratch for a second then goes into the infectous beat.....the full cd/lp version DOES NOT have this vinyl scratch.....pat........you might want to review all the entries in the db to determine which ones are the 45/single versions and which are the full cd/lp versions.........they both have about the same running time.......let me know what you find out........

I also recall that my 45 of this has the "radio edit" version as well. I know it isn't the lp version of the song.

Good catch, Ed! I had not noticed that the database didn't distinguish between 45 & LP on this one.
If my memory is correct, the intro of the 45 version (which has a second of ABC's "The Playground" followed by the vinyl scratch) was included at the beginning of the bonus remix of "Jump" from Totally Krossed Out. This "extended mix" is also not listed in the database, although it's the last track on the disc.
Essentially, if you take that short intro and paste it onto the beginning of the LP version, you'll have the 45 version. Again, just going from memory here...

Yes Aaron that is correct. At one point the sample of Another Bad Creation's "Playground" was removed from later pressings of the song. The version that appears on the Sony "Soundtrack For The Century-R&B" compilation features the version with the scratch only.

Interesting. I wonder if they "forgot" to get permission to use it? After all, it's not actually a compliment. Check the lyrics "don't try to compare us to another bad little fad." Ouch! Dissed...

I don't think they had permission to use the sample. Only the first pressings of the album and the single had it.

Jeff, my copy of "Soundtrack For The Century - R&B" does not have the scratching - can you double check your copy?

I checked my copy. It doesn't have the record scratch at the beginning. My bad! :)

I would like to revisit this topic again as I have now obtained both the commercial vinyl 45 (Columbia 38-74197) and the cassette single (39T-74197) and both state "radio edit" and neither one contains the ABC sample from "Playground". Can anyone confirm that they have a cassette single or commercial vinyl 45 that contains the "radio edit" with the ABC "Playground" sample?

My only commercial single is the CD single, which does not even contain the "Radio Edit." My promo CD single does contain the "Radio Edit" and it has about 1 second of "The Playground" (just music) followed by a sound effect of a needle skidding across a record.

I will enter that information in the database Aaron but I am really seeking information on the commercial cassette single or vinyl single.

Ed, it is a sample from Another Bad Creation titled "Playground" and it is about .5 seconds long and appears as the very first musical segment preceding the scratch effect.

I had no idea a version with the ABC sample existed
before reading this thread. I checked my copy of the
Cassette Single and it starts with the scratching.
