Has anyone tried to re-create the 45 version of Boz Scaggs' "Miss Sun"? I can get all the way to the fadeout, but there seems to be some unique audio from about (4:03) to the end of the fade.

It's only about eight seconds of audio, but it seems weird that a producer would bother to create a unique mix just for a part that's already fading. Of course, stranger things have been discovered on this board...

I just want to bring Aaron's question to the forefront. Did anyone look into this? Aaron, what did you do for the end of the song for your edit? Did you take it from vinyl? (or just fade 8 seconds early?) I'd be curious to hear it!

And btw, how many edits are in this song? I don't have a reference.

Since it was two years ago when I did this, I don't remember the edit points. But yes, EdisonLite, I did have to borrow the last seconds from the vinyl, as it is unique audio.

The edit points, or the re-creation of the 45, would sure be appreciated... I can't find anything online to use as a reference for the edit.

Even with edit points, you can't fully re-create the single. There is unique audio on the fade out that has never appeared on any CD.

Understood... for now, I chopped out what I suspect is absent from the 45 & faded early to get it the same length... hopefully I'll get access to the 45 later on.

...Why do labels do this to us? ;-)

Oh, NOW it occurs to me to check the board... after I attempted to recreate the 45 edit...

So, you can get really close, but not 100% there.

Here are editing instructions to nearly recreate the 45 edit from the Hits CD (copyright 1980).

Segment 1:
Extends from 0:00 to 3:19.4 of both the LP version and the 45 version.
Ends on a downbeat.
Remove the 24 beats from 3:19.4 to 3:33.3 of the LP version.

Segment 2:
Extends from 3:19.4 to 4:03.1 of the 45 version.
Extends from 3:33.3 to 4:17.1 of the LP version.
Begins and ends on downbeats.

Segment 3:
Is 8 beats long.
Extends from 4:03.1 to 4:07.6 of the 45 version.
Doesn't exist on the LP version! This segment starts within the fade, and is down at -20 dB!
If you fake it by using 4:17.1 to 4:21.6 of the LP version, few will notice. (You will, though, and it will always bother you.)

Add a 24-beat fade from 4:07.7 to 4:21.6 of the LP version, which extends from 3:53.8 to 4:07.6 of the (incorrect) 45 version.

Your (incorrect) mixdown will run 4:07.6, with an edit at 3:19.4, and a 24-beat fade from 3:53.8 to 4:07.6.
