Jim mentioned in another thread that he had heard that the version of "Any Day Now" by Chuck Jackson that appears on all cd's is not the hit version. I have listened to several cd's and compared them to the vinyl 45 and believe that the cd versions are the correct versions of this song. Would anyone else care to make the same comparison and get back as to your opinion on this?

Thanks for following up on that, Pat. I have ordered the original 45, but don't have it yet (I'm not a "Chuck" guy.) The listener who made THIS claim should be institutionalized for his note-for-note accurate radio memories, years later. He's inhuman! He also told me that the Sly/Family Stone "Dance To The Music" 45 ends differently than my CD versions - I pulled it out and played it for him; he was right, yelling "There, there - there's the difference - your CDs don't have that part!" If he's wrong, I'll be thrilled to FINALLY "bust his balls" about it (and that's NOT my nature); he's just proven impossible for me to "Gotcha!", even ONE time, for a wrong claim. The dreaded Carl R. from Hamden! My show seems to bring the VERY few people with this special gift out of the woodwork@#$%&!. Help me to finally quash this monster, guys!! PS-just called him - he's on vacation this week, and he said, to him, the ending seems a little longer, with some extra "da-da-da-da-da's" that, he says, "made the song." He said it could just be a mix difference - he's very much a "last few notes of a song" guy.

Thought I'd bring this one back from the archives... I just compared the commercial 45 of Chuck Jackson's "Any Day Now (My Wild Beautiful Bird)" to the song as it appears on the Solid Gold Soul - Deep Soul CD (Rhino 79779). I can confirm that the Solid Gold Soul disc contains the hit version, so chances are this song is the hit version on all other database CDs as well.

Also, it should be noted that the commercial 45 runs 3:24, not 3:28 as stated on the record label. The CD run times in the database range anywhere from 3:15 to 3:24. (The Solid Gold Soul disc I referenced above runs 3:19 and fades earlier than the 45.)
