Wanted to hear some George Strait music yesterday so I took his 50 Number Ones [2 CD set] off the shelf for the first time. I have an advance promotional copy in a paper fold-out sleeve that I received when it was first released in 2004. I had never played it before as I usually listen to Strait's individual albums. But as I was listening some of the songs did not sound quite right to me. I realized that several had been edited. Some had just a few seconds trimmed while others lost more. My guess is that MCA did that to trim some time to fit all of the tracks on the two CD's as each CD runs 77 minutes. There's 26 tracks on CD #1 and 25 on CD #2. His brand new single at that time "I Hate Everything" was the additional track on disc one.
Here are the edited tracks. Edited time is in brackets followed by the original single/album time. I checked and none were released as single edits. Strait issued very few single edits or remixes.
Checked Qobuz for this album and discovered that these tracks were given an "edited version" designation for the download.
Disc One
2. Fool Hearted Memory [2:12] 2:37 6. Let’s Fall To Pieces Together [2:21] 2:58 7. Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind [3:04] 3:13 11. Ocean Front Property [2:40] 3:06 14. Famous Last Words Of A Fool [3:19] 3:33 17. Baby’s Gotten Good At Goodbye [2:55] 3:27 24. The Chill Of An Early Fall [3:16] 3:29
Disc Two
2. Easy Come, Easy Go [2:34] 3:02 6. You Can’t Make A Heart Love Somebody [2:48] 3:20 10 Blue Clear Sky [2:34] 2:52 11. Carried Away [2:57] 3:19 13. One Night At A Time [3:18] 3:49 14. Carrying Your Love With Me [3:06] 3:50 18. True [3:12] 3:31 22. Go On [3:21] 3:48 23. Run [3:45] 4:04 25. She’ll Leave You With A Smile [2:44] 2:57

They made the edits to fit all the songs across two discs instead of three (keeping cost down). The Rolling Stones 40 Licks 2 CD set had similar edits applied on a handful of tracks.
I hear the 50 Number Ones edit of "Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind" on the radio sometimes and it makes me cringe. The edit at the end is so jarring and obvious.

Thanks for the heads up, Ken. Luckily, I only had one of the edited songs which I replaced with the proper album version.

Which songs are edited on 40 Licks?

I remember there was a lot of talk about the edited tracks when the Strait album first came out.

IIRC, "It's Only Rock 'N Roll (But I Like It)" is faded early and both "Emotional Rescue" and "Undercover Of The Night" are previously unreleased edits.

The only track I had from 50 Number Ones was Carrying Your Love With Me. I have Does Fort Worth ... from the album of the same name.

Sorry for the omission. I updated my original post and included proper credit. Thanks for catching that.
To be honest although the edit is clearly noticeable to those of us very familiar with the song, I don't find it technically objectionable. The edit is on the beat and if I had never heard the song before I don't think I'd notice it.
The edit is during the final line of the song @ approx. 2:53 - listen below

For anyone interested here's a rather unusual situation regarding the printed time of that recording.
The true running time for both the 45 AND LP version of Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind is 3:13 As far as I know MCA did not release an edited version. But the original stock 45, promo 45 and vinyl LP listed the time as 2:57
When the Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind album was released on CD a few years later it also incorrectly listed the time as 2:57.
When MCA released George Strait's Greatest Hits Vol. Two [vinyl LP] in 1987 the time was again listed as 2:57 However when that album was issued on CD a few years later the printed time was corrected to 3:13 on the CD and tray card.
Appears that other issues of that song on compilations since then including the Strait Out Of The Box boxset does list the correct 3:13
