Hi everyone, how are you? I've been searching the forum and haven't found any topics discussing or analyzing George Michael's single "Father Figure."

I have the LP version, which is 5:36, and two edited versions of unknown origin:

- probably the UK Edit, 4:44
- a 3:50 edit (US Edit?)

I haven't found any information about this 3:50 45 rpm version, neither on Discogs nor on 45cat. Does anyone know anything about it and can shed some light on this?

I'm not sure what the US 7" commercial release was, but in the UK we got the LP Version on 7" and CD Single and not a 4.44 Edit.

Both the U.S. commercial and promo 45s were the full-length (LP) version.

Well... sort of. The US and UK commercial 45s actually ran a hair longer than the LP version, which segues into "I Want Your Sex." The 45 runs the full 5:37, while the LP version slams into the next song without a gap at 5:36.

The weird thing about the 45: although it runs the full length, it also fades the volume at the end compared to what is on the album and "Ladies and Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael."

The only CD I've found that contains this exact version is the original UK CD single, although it may be the correct version on the Japanese CD3 as well.

Brian, did you mean 5:37 for Father Figure?

I did, yes, thank you. I've fixed that now.
