Any help here's appreciated. My ideal music player or music app would be one that can play both my collection (e.g. a specific playlist - that might be a certain subgenre, style, year, etc.) AND mix in songs I don't know but fit the playlist.
You'd think the Pandora app would be good for this, but it's the most frustrating app I've worked with. Obviously, it's not going to play the many single versions -- or songs -- that aren't in its library. And unfortunately, it will also play re-recordings, live versions, etc. (stuff I don't want to hear). But the worst part is if I build a Pandora station by thumbing up the songs I love, it often never plays them again. I've tried tricks to get those songs to play again - often to no avail. With Pandora, it's either play a station - or a playlist I've spent a lot of time compiling (but that won't introduce me to other similar songs).
Spotify can introduce you to some new songs (as can YouTube), but it's not mixing up the new and the unknown.
So I was told about the Roon app. Anyone here use it and what's your experience? It can play a blend of songs in your collection and mix in songs from your subscription service (like Qobuz, Tidal). You can "seed" your new station in Roon with a playlist you've made. It will analyze the metadata of the songs in the playlist and mix in other songs with similar metadata from the subscription service. Seems ideal for my purposes, but anyone here try it?
PS It doesn't have to be Roon - if you know of other apps that will do what I'm looking for, I'd like to know about those, too.
